Venue just canceled for my 10/3 wedding. What do i do now?

Kim, on July 16, 2020 at 12:17 AM Posted in Delaware Planning 0 4

I've been thinking lately that I should ask the venue if they have an outdoor setup since it's a country club/golf course and COVID has screwed everything up. Then today I got the dreaded call. Bella Vita, who leases the property from Cavalier's Country Club has been impacted by the COVID restrictions (no dancing, 1 person at the bar at a time, fewer people per table etc.) and then on top of that, the country club decided to do construction. So, as a result, they are canceling all events until further notice and refunding deposits.

I'm grateful that I'm not losing money but I was hopeful that my 10/3 was safe. Now, I just don't know what to do. We're building a home and FH has said all along that he'd love for us to get married there, but now I'm just wondering if having a reception at all is a good idea? Will people even want to attend amid this mess? I can't blame them if they don't. Or should I just postpone the reception until COVID is behind us?

I just don't know! Thanks for allowing me to vent.

First of all, I am so sorry this happened to you. I know a lot of brides are forced with difficult decisions of whether or not to postpone, but you really had the rug ripped out from under you when the venue made the call.

I am not sure the set-up of your home, but perhaps you could have a small backyard wedding ceremony and a catered dinner with your closest family and/or friends? It sounds sweet and intimate, and I'm sure your FH will be thrilled you will get to live out his fantasy! And then you could potentially schedule a reception for when things calm down and you can have something closer to the party you were originally envisioning having.

Thank you Katie. That's exactly what I was thinking of. Prayerfully our home will be ours by then and that will work just fine. My only concern is if we haven't closed by then.

I'm so sorry this happened to you Kim. ❤️ Finding out early and getting your deposit back are both definitely some silver lining though!

I love Katie's suggestion if you can make it happen! An intimate ceremony at home this year and when social events can really come back you can plan the party. 🎉
