Veil help please!!

Casey, on July 19, 2021 at 7:18 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 10

I'm struggling with my veils, and hair choice plays a part in your veil choice, but it turned into a really wordy/pic heavy post so I made 2 posts- if you want to see what kind of hairstyle I'm thinking there are pics in my last post and if you looked at both then you the real MVP and I thank you!! 💙

Also, I apologize if this gets clunky- it looks fine and well spaced on mobile until I post and all my formatting dissapears and it's all clumped together! 😣

Veils are driving me CRAZY. Ultimately, I want an updo, and I don't want a long veil because my dress' back is beautiful and I don't want it covered (though I'll have all reception to be veil free 🤔). My dress is champagne (photo attached.)

Finding a champagne veil is driving me CRAZY. For starters, several of them look very dark, much more than my dress! I don't want my veil looking brown against my dress. So, I'm considering ivory, but then what if that's too pale?!

For style I'm also stuck. I considered the idea of using 2 veils, essentially making my own blusher, and the "blusher" would be a birdcage veil. I pictured a classic wide fishnet veil, like so-

But I think that might be too jarring: having that in front and a regular veil in back. I bought this birdcage veil to play with this idea but without anything in the back it's hard to say how it would look!

Here's my top 4 favorites currently:

For length I'm thinking flyaway or shoulder. With such a short veil, a short (birdcage) blusher, like the one I bought, might make sense.

Also, I do like the idea of flowers atop my updo, and skipping veils??? Or above my veil (no blusher) or between the back veil and blusher?! That'd be a lot going on, though, lol!

In summation: I clearly am lost lol. Too many ideas and variations! Please help!

I think you are right -- too many different things. I don't personally think a birdcage blusher and a more traditional veil would look cohesive together.

I also think that the shorter veils will cut off directly over that beautiful back of your dress.

I would go for a much longer, completely plain veil that is reasonably sheer - something like this:

You could have a blusher - usually they are to elbow length, to allow your bouquet to be out:

I forgot to mention colour! I think you're going to need to look at the two together to make sure they match, but I think an ivory veil should be ok - your dress isn't SUPER champagne-y!

Thank you so much for your help! I was hoping a flyaway/shoulder length (the 4 pictures are all from the Etsy, I would custom order in my length) would prevent an awkward cut in the middle of my dress and end right above it, but it's a risk!
I am appreciate your points! Im still so torn, I never wanted a long veil so that idea just isn't sitting right in my head, but with the bottom half of my dress being free of any intricate lace, beading, etc. Perhaps a long veil with details on the bottom would be nice..
That said- still tinkering with the idea of tossing veils and only doing flowers, like this:Veil help please!! 12
But, y'know, with my updo, this one is much lower lol.

I do love the flowers look, so you could! You don't HAVE to do a veil afterall!

I have a stunning back on my dress, and I bought a relatively sheer veil so with the same beading/rhinestone look on the edge as the straps on my dress and the back details. You can still mostly see the back, but I'm taking the veil off for the reception so I wasn't super worried about that. Mine is fingertip length.

I would not do a veil with a birdcage, I don't think it would flow seemlessly.

If you really want to show off the back of your dress I would consider a very simple single layer sheer tulle veil in a longer cut (chapel or longer) so that the hemline falls well below your back, allowing the details of the back of the dress to show through the tulle.

Or I would skip the veil entirely (my personal preference if showing off the back is important to you) and opt for flowers or a decorative hairpiece in your hair. I think an updo lends itself well to this option. I made my own hair pins and loved how they looked! I also greatly preferred them to wearing a veil. Veils make for pretty photos but aren't all that practical for wearing and tend not to stay in place unless you are constantly fiddling with them or stand still like a statue.

Very true, infact every wedding I've been to in the past.. ~15 years, the bride didn't wear a veil. Might be a good option!

Thank you so much!! I am definitely considering flowers (I added a photo in comments) and the more help you've all given the more I'm thinking no veil. A few pearl/rhinestone pins with flowers might be the best option for me. I already have that birdcage one I posted, I could just do a few quick photos in that on the day of or something lol
