Vegan hors d'oeurves

Ivy ORP, on September 23, 2019 at 8:09 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
Our future daughter-in-law just went vegan. We will be having a cocktail party style reception and let our caterer know as soon as we found out that we might need a couple of vegan options. They are totally willing to accommodate and full of ideas on vegetarian, but I would like to get ideas from vegans. Are there appetizers/hors d'ouevres you love? I know she doesn't like fake meat but does enjoy tofu. I'm hoping to have a couple of options for our caterer this week.

Maybe something like stuffed mushrooms? Or veggie egg rolls?

We're doing a vegetarian stuffed mushroom but not sure if I can make it vegan with the breadcrumbs. Veggie egg rolls...I'll have to check if the wraps are vegan.

I used to be vegan for 8 years and two of my guests are vegan. Pasta is cheap and easy to make vegan but I know you’re doing a cocktail reception so I would focus on veg centric bites, don’t try to make it taste like meat with meat substitutes. There’s beauty in simplicity! Think hearty mushrooms or beans, assorted colors and textures that will appeal to everyone. I personally like mock sushi, or anything stuffed in cups! You can make pastry from hot water crust and make veg wellingtons. You can do wontons. You can do a yummy vegan bean dip! Sky’s the limit. Celebrate the all mighty veggie!

Thank you. I learned last night I can make the stuffed mushrooms vegan by using panko and I might ask our caterer to use vegan butter and milk in our mashed potato puffs. I am considering marinated tofu that the caterer can simply bake and place on tray with toothpicks. Just looking for a good marinade but you gave me some really good ideas as always. Thank you!

She's not big on spicy but curry is a good idea. Thank you.
