Uber and Lyft for transportation

Joanna, on February 13, 2019 at 11:36 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

Hi All! I have never used uber events or lyft events. I know how to set it up and such, just curious of if the rides are guranteed or not. If I create an event does it give drivers time to commit to the ride. I wanted to do a shuttle, however it is out of our current budget. Thanks!

Someone posted on here a few weeks ago that Uber events is ending. I’m not sure about Lyft events as I’ve never used it. I know these programs don’t guarantee drivers in your area, it’s basically just a gift card to cover the expense and you have to hope there are enough drivers in the area your guests are.

Make sure you read the fine print. Uber charges a service fee on top of the charge for the event. Lyft does not charge a service fee but only offers the ride to be used one time per guest. Meaning, whoever calls the lyft to the reception cannot call a lyft home. They would either need to pay out of pocket or have the guest with them call the ride. Also worth noting- there is a mileage limit on event codes.

My sister used lyft for her wedding in October. We were in a major city so the cars were plentiful. I can see it being difficult in a suburban or rural area.

The rides aren't guaranteed, it just means the ubers in your area will be paid for with your code I think?

I was going to use Uber Events but as Kelly mentioned, I think they're discontinuing that service in March. I'll be using Lyft...but my venue is in a rural area. I'm a little concerned about how many will be available but in general I don't think people will need it. However, I want to still offer it...just in case there's that one that drinks a little too much and needs to find a ride lol

It all worked out for my sisters wedding. I was her MOH and made sure all the baby boomers knew how to download the app and order a car 😆.

I know this thread is a few years old now but does anyone know if they still charge a service fee? I set up an Uber voucher and it seems great but now I'm nervous about the 2.5% service fee I'm reading about and can't find it on their website.

    Thanks.

Hi Brittany, I just came across this thread. I’m getting married in May in a rural area where I’ve heard getting Lyfts/Ubers is difficult. I’d love to hear about your experience. Did creating the event make it easier to get rides called out to your venue? Thank you in advance!
