Too early to shop for a dress?

Caitlin, on September 9, 2020 at 1:47 PM Posted in North Carolina Planning 0 6
Is there such a thing as too early to dress shop? I’m nervous about dress shopping since I’d like to lose some weight between now and the wedding (December 2021), but I’m anticipating struggling with being able to commit to a dress and I don’t even know what style dress I would want to wear. Is there such a thing as trying on all the different styles to narrow down what style dress you want without being pressured to make a purchase?

I do think there may be such a thing as too early to ship for a dress. However, depending on where you’re getting your dresses sometimes it takes months to come/order. I plan on losing weight as well for my wedding and I got my dress in August. I don’t think I’ll go in for final alterations until about 2 months before the big day. That way the seamstress and alterations manager at the store can account for any weight change

Hi Caitlin! You can definitely start shopping just to get an idea of styles and shapes that you like! That's how I approached my first appointment - was just to think of it as a way to try on different silhouettes and start narrowing styles down (instead of putting pressure on myself to find "the one")!

On the other hand, dress regret is real! So once you buy your dress you need to stop looking at other dresses, and the earlier you buy a dress the longer you have to second-guess yourself!😉

Another thing to keep in mind is that wedding dresses are seasonal, so there will be new spring & fall lines coming out every year and older styles will be retired - so if there's a dress that's a top contender for you I'd definitely ask how long they think the designer will keep the style in stock!

But I don't think it hurts to start getting a sense for your style! Smiley shame Here are a few helpful articles you can check out with shopping tips: A Guide to Wedding Dress Shopping From Start to Finish and The Wedding Dress Shopping Timeline Every Bride Should Know.

Definitely not too early! They suggest ordering your dress around 10 months before your wedding. Starting now will give you plenty of time to shop around and try gowns on. It will also give you a little extra time in case there are shipping delays due to Covid.

Have fun! Dress shopping was one of my favorite parts of planning.

I had a post similar and everyone kept telling me no matter how early you start shopping when you put you’re dress on you’ll know. They were right! I tried on a total of three dresses and thats all I needed to fall in love! I’m very indecisive so I thought picking a dress a year before my wedding would be a mistake but I’m still so in love with my dress. I’m always on Pinterest too and see other dresses and still love mine. Regarding weight I picked out a size that fits me now but plan on losing weight before my actual wedding
