Time of year to get married in Montana?

Sarah, on July 30, 2021 at 2:11 AM Posted in Montana Planning 0 10
I’ve decided on a venue in Montana. Being from Louisiana, I have no idea about the best time for an outdoor wedding. Any experience/suggestions would be sooo appreciated!

Definitely summertime (July-September). Montana is beautiful but notoriously dark and rainy so I’d aim for peak summer.

I'd agree with summertime, my cousin lives there and the weather can be unpredictable the rest of the year.

It depends on which part of the state - but I’d even stay away from September - we got a pretty decent snow storm in early September last year.

July and August would be my pick!

I know two people who got married in Montana, one at the end of June and one in the middle of July. I think those two months are a safe bet weather-wise! Even in late August or September you might be getting into some cold weather.

I would do earlier summer, less fires. That is something a lot of people don’t think about! Right now we (Wyoming) are so smoky that I can’t see mountains a mile away from us. My best friend got married Sep 10 of last year, it snowed two days before then so it was super cold! I would just think about snow (sep), smoke (later summer), and thunderstorms (typically end of July).

Wyoming is really cold still, it is not unusual for a may snow in Wyoming and Montana is north of us. We lived near Billings for awhile and it was cold! June would be the best bet! Maybe mid-late June if you are looking for it to be a bit warmer during the night!

April and may are cold if doing an outdoor wedding snows quite a bit still in April. May and June get lots of rain. End of June is good most years. June is nice if you have a mountain back drop cause there is still snow on the mountains and not likely to have fires so air is clear for good views of the beauty Montana is. June is also flood season so if near a river or creek have a back up plan.
