Thoughts on handwriting your wedding invitation envelopes?

Samantha, on February 9, 2018 at 2:53 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 21

I don't know if I should worry about typing/ printing the addresses on the envelope or handwriting it?

My handwriting isn't the best, so I am just going to type mine and print on labels. If you have neat writing that will look consistently the same, go for it.

I don't think this is a big deal for STDs but I would think it was weird if I got a wedding invitation and the address was just handwritten.

My thoughts are, if you have a lot of guests, your hands will be hurting!
I hand wrote our STD envelopes and decided I wasn’t going to be doing that again

I think this is fine if your wedding isn't super formal. Absolutely a no-no for black tie weddings. If you aren't getting them done by a calligrapher, my first choice would be printing the addresses on the envelopes, second choice would be labels, and third would be handwritten.

My handwriting is nice but sometimes I mix numbers around so a handful were returned. We printed them on labels and are doing it that way.

I tried so hard to handwrite our STDs, even went and got a calligraphy pen, but it was an epic fail. After ruining a few of our envelopes and crying and obsessing, I just printed on some labels. We're going to print directly onto the envelopes for our invites.

Don't worry about it, they go into the trash anyway.

I'm not a fan of labels. I would either print directly on the envelope or hand write them.

I downloaded a fancy free front and printed my own envelopes. I didn't want to budget for a calligrapher and I knew i would get lazy writing.

I'm handwriting mine.. this was my practice one. It's going really well and i think it feels more personal than a label.

I'm currently handwriting mine! They aren't perfectly centered or perfectly straight, but my cursive is decent (not calligraphy, regular cursive) so I'm going for it.

I'm handwriting mine. But then again, I'm kinda in love with my own handwriting. Weird, I know. Lol. Smiley tongue

I love handlettering! I'm in the Cleveland area and just found a place that has a super cheap class at the end of the month and I'm going. LMK if you're interested!

I just got a Cricut this week and I have been doing my envelopes a little at a time. They are coming out really nice.

I have good handwriting and good cursive lettering. I hand-wrote mine.

    For 80 invitations.

    Plus RSVP envelopes.

    *whispers* Don’t do it.

Joking aside, if you have a much smaller guest list and only need to write, say, 10 or so, it wouldn’t be such a pain.

I second Callie Sue. I hand wrote all mine but only had to do 45 and it still felt like it took forever. I love them as think they turned out pretty good. But seriously words and letters stop having meaning after a while. Plus having to write the return address as well as RSVP addresses 90 times. But I'd do it again for that personal touch. Although I'm very glad I won't have to do them again lol.

I think hand written is more personal and shows guests that you care bc you are taking time to write out each one. Now if your hand writing is terrible, have a member of your bridal party do It!

I don’t like my handwriting, so I’ve started practicing faux calligraphy using worksheets from google. I have a few months before I send my invites out, so I have some time to prepare. I want to convey to my guests the wedding is a formal event, and I think calligraphy on the envelope would help convey that. We’ve been to weddings where (1) a guest has worn a hoodie over her dress, (2) the officiant wore jeans, and (3) a t shirt at a formal black tie wedding! So we want to make it as clear as possible that we have a dress code.

Im going to buy clear labels, then do the "name" in a fancier font, and the address in a standard font
