For NYC wedding folks:
I just heard that coveted wedding venue The Green Building in Gowanus, Brooklyn has been demolished. Apparently the owner, Gowanus Hospitality Group, sold it to a developer (there was a massive re-zoning plan that recently passed in that area so now everyone wants to build huge towers of luxury apartments).
What's making me nervous is that I am booked for a wedding at 501 Union, the sister space across the street. I know folks who had weddings booked at the Green Building and have been offered dates at 501 Union since their original venue is now a pile of bricks. Do I suddenly need to assess whether the company might also sell 501 Union? The space is constantly booked up so I assume they would not want to get rid of the venue since its def a cash cow for them. But those luxury high rise developers are absolutely loaded and the company has already demonstrated that they are willing to sell out to a high bidder.
Are there any New York insiders here that might know anything? Am I freaking out for nothing? The prospect of suddenly getting a call that I don't have a venue is terrifying. I feel so so awful for everyone they did this to.
