Thank You Time Frame

Eyonna, on June 28, 2021 at 11:23 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8
We were married on 5/21/21 and my photographer is behind in getting our photos edited and back to us. We intend on using one of the photos and we should get them back before the end of this week. I am definitely sending thank you’s but am I behind with us being married for over a month already? I don’t want to offend any of our guests.

Send thank you notes ASAP. Don’t wait for the photographer. You can send those pictures in your holiday cards.

Can you ask your photographer for a picture to use? I asked mine for a specific picture and he got it to me ASAP! Also I got ours out a month after the wedding and it was fine. I think as long as you get them out in the next week or so you’ll be fine.

No you're not behind if it's only been a month. I feel like most people (at least my guests) understand that a lot happens after the wedding and that sending thank you notes may not be the top priority. If you can get them out next week you'll be fine

Thanks Cassidy for that suggestion, I am going to ask for a few of the 2 of us and see if he can send them so I can get started; the studio is very responsive so I don't think it will be a big deal.

Thank you Yasmine! I think I may be more in my head and worried then my guests are, truthfully Smiley smile but I do intend on taking the suggestion of Cassidy and asking for a few so I can get started.

I think sending them within 30 days is ideal. I got mine out in a week.

I think if you are using wedding photos it is appropriate to wait a bit longer. Most photographers have a 6-8 week turnaround.

We eloped/legally married last year and waited until we got photos to send thank yous. We used generic thank you cards but put a wallet sized photo from our elopement in the thank you. I think the added photo touch was really appreciated, particularly since many of the people we received a card/check from could not come to our elopement and we did not post photos online because we planned on having a wedding celebration later and didn't want to reveal my dress to everyone. So it was a special treat for those individuals to get to see pictures from our event, since they were such a guarded secret from almost everyone else.

Most photographers do post "sneak peaks" shortly after the wedding, so if there is a photo you like from those, I'm sure the photographer could send you that in advance of the others so you can get your thank you cards printed.

Like others have said below, within 30 days is when you should send out thank you cards, and you can always put the wedding photos in holiday cards like Michelle said. However I can understand why you might want your professional photos included in the thank yous. I would recommend you ask the photographer for a time frame, explain why you need them, and then order them as soon as possible. I was also pretty late on sending out thank you cards, but we ordered from MagnetStreet and they were at my front door, addressed to guests, within 4 days: https://www.magnetstreet.com/wedding-thank-yous
