I recently got engaged!! When is the best time to start wedding planning, start ordering everything, and wedding dress shopping? We get married in October.

Both WeddingWire and The Knot have tons of free helpful planning tools, including a schedule that breaks down when you should do certain tasks. I found that really helpful when I was planning.

Congratulations!!! I would recommend taking a little bit (like 1-2 weeks) to think about wedding budgets and stuff like that with your fiancé (budget, guest count, what you're willing to splurge/save on). Once you have a good idea about that, try to see what venues exist that fit your budget and guest list size. A venue is probably the most expensive part of the wedding (which is reasonable), but you should still try to find something at a reasonable price point. Then you secure a date and put down a deposit once you have a venue picked.

Congratulations on your engagement! 🎉 Let's streamline this stellar planning journey for your October 2025 wedding:

    1. Wedding Dress Shopping: Start the quest for the dream dress about 12-18 months before your wedding. This allows ample time for alterations and ensures you're a vision of bridal beauty on the big day.

    2. Ordering Essentials: Begin ordering key elements like flowers, decor, and that show-stopping cake about a year ahead. Think of it as casting the enchanting spell for your wedding wonderland!

    3. General Wedding Planning: Dive into the planning adventure around the same time you start ordering. Develop a timeline, choose your venue, and get the major aspects in place to set the stage for a seamless celebration.

    4. Final Touches: As the date draws near (around 6 months prior), focus on finalizing all the details - think invitations, final fittings, and confirming bookings. You're in the homestretch, and everything's coming together beautifully!

Stay organized, enjoy the journey, and here's to an extraordinary wedding! 🥂💍

So before doing anything, come up with a budget for each item on your wedding list. Start with the total budget, and use a calculator to determine how much of the budget goes toward each item.

Congratulations on your engagement!! So exciting ☺️
I got my dress about a year before my wedding date. For me, that was one of the foundational pieces of the wedding planning so I had to do it promptly. Setting a date, booking a venue and getting a dress were my priority items that I competed pretty soon.

    Congratulations on your engagement!!!

My fiance and I first set a budget and then got venue shopping. Once we set out venue, I then went dress shopping. ( I wanted to be sure my dress would "match" the venue) Depending on the designer, many dresses take 6-8 months to arrive from date of purchase & then you need time for the alterations. So typically you want your venue and dress 12 months before wedding date. Feel free to reach out to me directly if you wish! Happy planning!!!
