St Lucia vs Hawaii

Allie, on August 27, 2017 at 1:28 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 18

Hello ladies and gents!

I am so excited for the honeymoon part of our wedding, I've been thinking about it way before we were engaged!

So. Saint Lucia vs. Hawaii? Specifically Kauai and Maui. We live in Seattle so getting to Hawaii is much easier. But I absolutely love the idea of a far far away honeymoon, with everything all inclusive-sandals and not having to worry about anything. We are also avid hikers, and the na pali coast has been on my bucket list forever.

I feel like we can go to Hawaii anytime, but an excuse to go to st Lucia we may not get around to ever again?? Idk. I know the wedding is in two years, but I was on sandals website and they are booking through December 2019!!

I am such a planner.

Any ideas? Anyone done a sandals honeymoon and what did they think?

We live on the east coast so we decided to go all out by going to Maui. We're all about adventure so we didn't want an all inclusive. It was exhausting and amazing but for your honeymoon you should definitely choose your "all out."

Do you really want to do an all-inclusive? If that's a big draw for you than St. Lucia is going to be your best option since that is not as common in Hawaii.

Did you look into flight costs too? I assume that the cost of flights to St. Lucia will be significantly more.

When do you plan on going on your honeymoon? St. Lucia is in the hurricane zone so June through November can be risky.

@nicole Yeah that's true, a all inclusive isn't necessary, for some reason I just like the idea of it! Flights are much more expensive, but by the time we go our credit cards will have enough miles.

August is when we will be going, so that's true hurricane season could be risky.

I'd do St. Lucia if I were you. Like you said, if you're in Seattle, it's much easier to do Hawaii. For a lot of couples, the honeymoon is the last chance to do a "big" trip together.

I got engaged in St. Lucia so the country holds a special place in my heart. I agree that you can always do Hawaii especially considering you live on the west cost.

I would purchaser travel insurance considering the time of year you are booking.

@nikki that's gorgeous! Yeah I've been to Hawaii twice, but FH hasn't so that's why I was thinking about it.

    Thanks for the advice!!

FH and I are having this exact conundrum. I think we're going towards st Lucia though. It's much cheaper and we want all inclusive. I've also been to Hawaii before and although I loved it, i want to share a new experience together and save Hawaii for a vacation some other time. Good luck deciding!

@laura, I know you asked SCD but I have a recommendation. The road to Hana!!! Rent a convertible and make a day out of it. It was probably one of the best experiences I've had ever. Also zip lining! I forgot where I went, but it was a course where one of the lines was 700 feet above the ground! Sooo cool.

St. Lucia is wonderful! I didn't do it the last time I was there, but there are hiking tours of the Pintons there.

We just did the Grande St Lucian Sandals resort for our honeymoon. Its the resort you want to go to out of the 3 sandals properties in St Lucia.

I booked my trip through Costco travel. We stayed at a hotel called the landings. It was right next to the sandals grande. Jacuzzi on our porch that overlooks the marina. Had breakfast included in our room. But we aren't huge eaters and we tend to leave the hotel a lot because we are scuba divers. We don't like to do all inclusive because you feel like it's a waste of money since a lot of times are not at the hotel during the day.

At Sandals Scuba diving is included free, as well as all water sports,(water skiing, paddleboards, snorkeling, hobiecats), golf, all activities unlimited meals and drinks def worth it.

See I'm in the complete backwards boat as you. I'd love to go to Hawaii but we live on the east coast and it takes like a day to get there. Far away in the carribean ? Let's trade. Lol

@laura I second the road to Hana! It was awesome and exhausting. Get the Maui Revealed book- great recommendations for stops on the road to Hana, restaurants, excursions/activities, places to stay. Seriously helpful. Also for the road to Hana- the Gypsy app for your phone. It uses location services to tell you where to stop and tells you about Mauis history as well. We booked a condo through HomeAway which we found to be cheaper than the hotels. If you can, get a place with an ocean view. It was one of our favorite parts.
