St. Lucia or Hawaii?

Ashton, on January 11, 2016 at 7:38 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 7

We have been researching honeymoon spots for our wedding in September. So far Jade Mountain in St. Lucia is our favorite. A friend told us we really should do Hawaii. Any suggestions??

We stayed at the Westin Maui and loved it! I've never been to st. lucia so I can't offer a comparison. I will say that if we had the money, DH and I would have done Tahiti.

I adored Maui and would highly recommend it for a honeymoon. I think you should consider travel time & overall cost of each. Hawaii can be very expensive (if you buy everything at the resort or only eat at high end places) but it also don't have to be. Not sure what daily costs are like on St. Lucia, but I'm sure some ladies who have been there can chime in. Where would you be traveling from? When in September would you be going?

Traveling from Myrtle Beach September 26. My father in law is giving us points for the plane ride. I just don't want to miss out on the opportunity to go to Hawaii, but I also hate long plane flights.

We were struggling with the same choices. I hate to burst your bubble, but we chose Hawaii because the end of September through November is typically hurricane season in that general region of the world Smiley sad the resort we were looking at is actually closed to the public during that time.

We had a similar debate! St. Lucia is actually supposed to be very similar to Hawaii as far as topography, but we ended up doing Hawaii (Kauai and Maui). Living on the East Coast, we figured our honeymoon may be our only chance to take the time off and get out to Hawaii since it's much easier and shorter to get to St. Lucia. I can't speak for St. Lucia (although I've heard amazing things), but I could not have been happier with our choice! Hawaii was breathtaking! It was absolutely the trip of a lifetime and I still miss it every day (and we've been back for over three months!) I will say, it was a much different experience than an all inclusive where you never leave the resort because there's so much on the islands to see and explore and we wanted to see everything while we were there! Hawaii doesn't have all inclusives, so if that's the type of experience you are looking for, you may be better with St. Lucia.

I will second Dana's comment - we went in late September to early October and the hurricane factor also played into our decision. Everyone said I was silly and we could just get insurance in case of a hurricane, but I didn't want to risk it. Sure enough, while we were in Hawaii, the Caribbean got hit pretty hard by Hurricane Joaquin. Made me even more glad we picked Hawaii! The odds of that happening are probably not great, but it's definitely something to consider.

Good luck with your choice! Smiley smile

We went to St Lucia. One of the boat tours took us to Jade Mountain. It was gorgeous but its crazy expensive. I don't know if Jade Mountain is all inclusive but apparently its on top 10 places to visit in the world. When we were there they had a helicopter landing on the roof. Apparently its on the only place on the island all the celebrities stay. I really wanted to stay at Jade Mountain but we couldn't wrap our heads around spending that much money.

We stayed at Sandals Grande. We did a few excursions that took us off the resort which was fun. I wanted to go to Bora Bora but DH didn't want to do the long flight. The flight to St Lucia for us (from Boston) was only about 6 hours I believe. Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. We loved St Lucia and I would go back in a heartbeat. I have never been to Hawaii but have heard great things. DH and I are big all inclusive people so that's usually what directs us to certain places.

This is a picture of Jade Mountain from our boat tour. The place was gorgeous and its very secluded. Of course it doesn't do it justice but the tour guide couldn't stop talking about how amazing it is.

Do lots of research on both and see how they compare. Choosing a place for a honeymoon (or vacations in general) is a personal choice. What I prefer will not be the same as what you prefer. Personally, I would definitely choose any Hawaiian islands over St.Lucia.
