Spring 2021 Rescheduling

Kelsey, on December 2, 2020 at 10:44 PM Posted in Massachusetts Planning 0 3
Hey all,

My wedding is in spring of 2021 in MA. My venue asked for another deposit so I kindly asked if we could move the date to 2022 but still pay them now with a new date.
The response was pay now or lose the venue. She told me if I wanted a new 2022 date I could forfeit my current deposit and place another one. She then sent me the 2022 wedding package as an attachment on the email.
Anyone else having a horrendous time with venues? What have you done?
Thanks!

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear! My venue was kind enough to be relaxed about things, I moved my date without any issues. Is the venue your dream one? It's tough that they won't let you keep the deposit for another date.

Did they let you move it already for spring 2021 or were you 2020?
They’re saying it’s too soon to move it and they’ll let me in February but still want the money.
But I already have my vendors and they’re booking up for spring of 2022.I honestly don’t think the venue is worth it. I don’t like how they’re treating people during a global pandemic.

Hi Kelsey! What does your venue contract say about postponing or rescheduling?

Also how much money would you be out if you cancelled your contract? I'd weigh the nonrefundable deposit against the stress of waiting another 2 months and see how you feel!

I'd also see if the venue can provide any more info around how they'd evaluate if you can postpone without penalty in Feb. Will the choice be up to you? Or will they not allow to postpone if they can legally host an event of up to X many people? Those are the issues I'd try to get more insight into!
