Southern Spain honeymoon?

Sus, on September 6, 2017 at 2:14 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 9

Hi everyone! My FH and I have been discussing destinations for our honeymoon, and we are thinking about going to Southern and/or Eastern Spain! (Valencia, Malaga, Barcelona are some current ideas)

Has anyone traveled to Spain, particularly the Eastern or Southern coast? We would be going in October. Any recommendations of cities/activities/etc would be appreciated Smiley smile

We are both adventurous and outdoorsy people and would most likely be staying in Airbnbs and traveling via rental car or train.

Gracias! Smiley winking

We went to Barcelona for a couple of days before we headed to Catalunya for rock climbing. Wasn't my fav European destination. We drove about 3 hrs Northeast to Collioure, France for a day and that was one of my favorite days of the trip. A beautiful little Mediterranean town right on the coast. It was so much fun. Might be pretty chilly in October, though.

During my backpacking trip, I went to Mallorca, Spain. It was gorgeous. Literal PERFECTION. Would love to take my H there someday.

If you choose to do the south, Granada is glorious if you can work in 2 days or so that aren't beachy. The Alhambra is a can't-miss (get tickets in advance) and the tapas scene in Granada is the best in Spain.

H and I went to Barcelona over the New Year, and it was PHENOMENAL! It's a pretty city, the people are friendly, the food was out of this world, and we were amazed at how cheap everything was. I haven't been elsewhere in Spain so I can't comment on how it compares.

If you wind up choosing Barcelona, I have a few tips. Stay in Vila de Gràcia; we did, and the location was ideal for exploring the city. Eat the squid ink fideuà at a restaurant called Tapeo--you'll thank me later, it was one of the best things I have ever tasted. Buy the unlimited daily pass for the metro; the city zones are confusing, but unless you are planning on hitting up the suburbs you just need the main zone.

If you go to Barcelona, check out El Born and El Gotico districts. LOVED wandering around there for tapas and drinks with my husband! We had amazing drinks at Llamber and dinner our last night at La Lluna.

The beach is very pretty and there is some interesting European "sight seeing" on it, lol.

I studied abroad in Spain for 6 weeks during a college summer break! I stayed in Alicante (just south of Valencia). It was great - right on the beach and walking distance to pretty much anything. We took a day trip to Valencia, and I wish I could have stayed there longer. Valencia is the city of arts and sciences, so lots to do there!

We took trips to a lot of other small towns, but I don't remember all of their names. There's so much to see even in the smaller towns in southern Spain. I've always wanted to go back!
