Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue

Ashley, on December 18, 2019 at 5:19 PM Posted in Planning 1 17

I would love to see what everyone's something old, new, borrowed, and blue is!

Something Old: my grandmother's ring (different from my wedding/engagement ring)

Something New: my wedding shoes (Sorel snow boots)

Something Borrowed: my sister's veil

Something Blue: my best friend's blue sapphire necklace that she wore on her wedding

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue 1

Something old: my garter was made from my grandmother's wedding dress

Something new: my dress, veil, shoes

Something borrowed: my earrings, my mom bought them but when I gave them back she said to keep them so not really borrowed.

Something blue: my perfume is Light Blue by Dolce and Gabbana, my garter has a blue bow and my shoes are Blue by Betsey Johnson with a blue sole.

Was your handkerchief from a family member like the other two ladies or something vintage you found and fell in love with?

One of my bridesmaids gave it to me as an engagement gift for the purpose of my “something old”. So, my best friend (MOH) gave me my something borrowed, and my other BM gave me my something old. So it was all pretty special.

Blue: aqua perfume (I didn’t like actual blue scents)
Borrowed & Old: my moms wedding handkerchief
New: garter and veil! I got to customize my veil and it was such a fun experience

Something old: my grandmother's pearl necklace

    Something new: dress/veil/shoes

Something borrowed: my stepmother's pearl earrings (they had been HER mother's)

Something blue: Ravenclaw diadem comb for veil (...and undies, in case that fell out)

The diadem stayed in place all night, so it worked out well!

I only have my something old. My moms sister (my aunt) passed away at 62 from ovarian cancer. She and I had become closer in my young adult years because I went to college only a few hours from where she lived (and further from my immediate family). On Thanksgiving, my mom gave me a bonnet she had found that my Aunt gave when I was born. It had a little poem that said "now on the wedding day, so I have been told; every well dressed bride must have something old. So what would be more fitting than to find little old me, a few snitches snipped and a wedding hankie I'll be". I plan to take it to my seamstress and see what we can do with it to incorporate in my dress. It makes me tear up just thinking about it. I didn't know it even existed and what a sweet gift it was all these years later.

That is the sweetest sentiment ever and that poem is adorable! I'm so sorry for your loss, but so happy your Aunt is still part of your wedding in memory. Smiley heart
