Solo DJ vs DJ/MC combo

Jacquelene, on September 3, 2019 at 7:57 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
Our wedding is in 2021 and we already have our venue booked. Yay! One of the reasons we chose our venue is because we love our sales coordinator. We know he’ll take care of us!

So we are moving on to the DJ and have narrowed it down to two. One is a DJ company that will not let us know our assigned DJ until we get closer to the date. They gave us a DEEP discount. I didn’t get a good feeling about the meeting. And the dude we met kept saying, “You know. Because your date is in 2021...”

Our second option is $500 more and is a DJ/Emcee combo. We enjoyed meeting them; they asked us about ourselves and shared more than enough info about how things will go. They are giving us discounts, but it’s still $500 more. We did meet our emcee and we like him.

My fiancé, who is completely hands-on during our planning, is stepping back for this one because he’s not a dancer. But he’s agreed to both.

Any thoughts?

Personally, I would go with the one who is $500 more. They already sound like they are taking you much more seriously as a client by meeting you personally, taking the time to be personable towards you. I would assume the cheaper DJ is cheaper for just that reason, they want to just play music and not provide a people service. I also think the DJ/MC combo is really important as opposed to just the DJ Smiley smile

I think you can definitely have a DJ who acts as an emcee too, so I'd be more worried about the cheaper option because the meeting didn't go great and they can give you a specific DJ at this time. If they can assign someone to you in a year, and if you can meet with that person and possibly change to someone else if they're not working for you, then I'd still keep the cheaper option in the running. If not, the $500 is worth the peace of mind.

    Hey Jacquelene!

I totally understand how difficult this decision must be for you, but you have to acknowledge your feelings about meeting with the first company. If you do not feel comfortable booking without knowing who you will get on your actual wedding day, that makes total sense!

Does your budget stretch far enough to hire the DJ/MC combo that you felt more comfortable with?

We can afford the additional amount for our peace of mind, yes.

Yes, after seeing some reviews on here, we chose the DJ/Emcee combo.
