Small venues

Martin, on May 16, 2019 at 4:29 AM Posted in New York Planning 0 7
Hi there. My partner and I are looking for small venues for around about 35 people to have our wedding reception in and possibly even the ceremony in New York. I am from Scotland and my partner is Australian and we live in Australia. Neither of us have ever been to New York so we are a bit clueless as to where the best places would be. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Are you wanting to go to NYC? Or the state of New York itself? I’m from NY & it’s quite spread out, I can’t give suggestions for the City area but the Finger Lakes are beautiful & have venues on the water. My top pick if I still lived there was Skaneateles, NY. It’s a beautiful little town in Upstate, the Baldwins have homes there. Justin Bieber & Hailey Baldwin was there for like a week so the town was all over the news which I found pretty cool to see since I grew up going there. It’s a mix of boardwalk town meets old southern. And their famous for their stretchy bread!

What's your budget? Time of year? Aesthetic?

If you're going for NYC, keep in mind it is expensive... but there are also tons of options.

    Hi Martin!

Welcome to the WeddingWire community Smiley smile

New York is an amazing place! One of my favorite places to travel too!

The WeddingWire venue directory is a great place to start your search for a wedding venue!

You can filter the selection by venue type, location, capacity, etc. and find one that fits your vision Smiley smile

What part of New York do you plan on having the wedding in?

Thanks for replying, we're looking at getting married at City Hall then a gathering/party with our friends and family in a small venue somewhere in Brooklyn or Williamsburg type of area.
Neither of us have been so we are definitely going to be doing a lot of the typical tourist things.

    Hi, thanks for replying.

We're looking at a few places like the boro hotel, wythe hotel, havens kitchen and another couple of venues to have something small there's probably only going to be around 30 people attending.
Our budget is around $25,000 USD.

Married at City Hall then lunch, drinks and a little party with our friends and family.

Neither of us have been so we're a bit clueless as to things to do outside of the wedding

    Hi

Thanks for replying. We have been using the wedding wire to narrow our search and now have a shortlist. The venue's are in and around Brooklyn and Williamsburg areas. One of our favorites is Havens kitchen and another is the Huxton.

In terms of things to do outside of the wedding, this is NYC.

You've got Broadway, museums, parks, historical sites, concerts, clubs, bars, restaurants, professional sports, off-Broadway and off-off-Broadway (a distinction of theatre size), comedy shows, daytime and late night talk show tapings, water tours, water sports, street performers, shopping, and all the other perks of a big city. It's the city that never sleeps.

My major point of advice is to learn the subway and bus system. You'll save yourself a ton of money (...though maybe not time), and you'll discover all kinds of things as you navigate the city by foot.
