Small and intimate

Doreen, on June 30, 2021 at 3:36 PM Posted in New York Planning 0 4
Looking to have a small and intimate wedding ceremony with only a few people but cannot seem to find a place that will do just the ceremony where we can take pictures on the grounds as well. No one seems to have a place just for that. Do they even exist? Looking in Duchess county NY….for September….2021

Could you contact a local church (or other house of worship) that you find attractive and ask them? Or perhaps a local garden? I went to a small wedding a few weeks ago on a community center grounds that was outside and had a tiny historic church building and the couple got married on the steps outside while the guests sat in chairs in the grass. Depending on how small you want it, you could say “elope” rather than “wedding” to emphasize that you want it for only a short amount of time. Or ask your photographer if they know any good spots for a small ceremony. Many places these days specialize in elopement packages. The bed and breakfast we stayed at on our honeymoon did that.

I would look into public parks or churches/religious establishments. Most “venues” won’t allow a ceremony only.

Hey Doreen, a courthouse may also fit the bill, some are totally gorgeous and have grounds where you can have a photo session. Otherwise I'd browse through the WeddingWire venue directory, I got a search started for you for venues with small capacities in the Westchester area. You can filter further by your wedding date, type of venue, amenities they offer, and more, and of course you can read reviews and look at pictures of the venue to help pick the right one for you.

I had a small wedding ceremony at Central Park last year at Cop Cot so I would start at looking for nice parks and gardens around the area. Just be sure to check to see if a permit is required if you do find one you like.
