Sister in law wants to do my makeup

April, on September 5, 2019 at 11:55 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 17
My sister in law wants to do my makeup for the wedding day. She loves doing makeup and she does it well, but it's not her profession. She'll be doing my mom's makeup, and I honestly don't mind her doing mine. The catch is, I'm in Texas, she's in Alabama. There's not going to be a chance for a trial before the wedding. Let alone my mom has warned me that my brother and his family can be pretty flaky when it comes to going places and attending events; especially with 2 little kids. Should I go with it, save money, be a little unsure if she's even going to be here. Or decline and go with a local makeup artist by trade?

FYI: I wear no makeup in my day to day life. For special events I've done decent putting something together while watching an hour of YouTube makeup tutorials and being unsure if it's ok that I'm still using the same stuff I use for every Christmas party for 5 years.

I would probably still check with a few local artists. I honestly wouldn't risk it especially with what you know about them being flaky. My cousin is the same way but if it's money involved she'll make it lol.

I would book a professional as well. Even if she’s fabulous with makeup, since she’s not a professional she may not have the right colors for your skin tone and eyes. Everyone wants to look their best on their wedding day, so I would play this one safe and pay someone.

I’d book a professional and tell your SIL that while you appreciate the offer, you don’t want her to have to work on your wedding day as she’s an honoured guest.

Book a professional. Having little ones can be hard with traveling and things could change at last minute and emergencies come up with them also.

My opinion use someone local and politely decline. You don't want anything to stress you out on the big day. FYI makeup does have a shelf life make sure you pay attention to thoae dates as well.

I would hire a professional artist. It can be hard hiring family members because you may be hesitant on being vocal about what you like or want to change (especially on wedding day since you’re not doing a trial and when it is chaotic and may be rushed) In addition, I don’t know how important photography is for you, but professionals know how to apply makeup that looks fantastic on camera. This is coming from someone who hardly ever wears makeup. My wedding planner told me “my number one beauty tip is to hire an amazing professional HAMUA”

If your moms warning you, you may want to stick with the professional! Plus, then you wont have to worry if they'll flake on you. It seems a little odd that moms warning you, I feel like if my mom was warning me it would mean she didn't trust the situation

Photography is one of the most important elements of my wedding. The person who'll do my hair is already selected as it's the person who always does my hair. Last time I saw her, I asked about suggestions for makeup artists. 1 comes to the salon every now and then and the other did her wedding about a year ago. I just haven't reached out about it yet.

The flakiness isn't about doing what she does well, it's more about whether something will come up (like her day job as a home nurse, or the kids getting sick or something, or my brother saying at the last minute that they don't have the money to come). But my mom isn't warning me not to have my sil as a mua, in fact the opposite. And even though my mom said that they said they put in for leave and they're starting to look into hotel prices, any one of the above issues could come up.

I would go with a professional because once you sign a contract with them this bind obligations between the both of you. And in the event if there is cancelation there are consequences and accountability. And I don't think you could apply the same business rules when it is a family member or close friend.

I wouldn’t take that chance. I would be sooooooo upset if she didn’t show up. Go with your gut. We’re having a Wedding Vow Renewal and I learned a lot. Go with your gut feeling. Let know one mess up your day. U will be beautiful. Congratulations to the both of you

If she does makeup we’ll go for it! I would let her know you have declined other makeup artist so you could use her instead. Hopefully she’ll see the seriousness in her being there. I mean it is her brothers wedding! That way if she feels like it’s a huge obligation maybe she’ll have common sense to let you know she may not be best for that. Another alternative is asking her to do your bridesmaids makeup and hire a professional for only yourself to cut back on cost. I don’t wear makeup everyday either but plan to hire a professional & have the makeup artist in my family do my bridesmaids & mother’s makeup. Ultimately I’m sure you will make the right choice 😊
