Which "side" are you on? Matching or mismatching bridesmaid dresses? And why! And ..... go!

I guess neither … and both? LOL I like the idea of bridesmaids picking out their own style of dresses (ie, shape, silhouette, fit, etc.), but I also like them to have some sort of matching aspect (for instance, all the same color, or fabric, or same length, etc). Wedding party members are honored guests, so I think it’s important for them to wear something they love and feel comfortable in. But I also like the outfits to have a commonality, so they all look as though they belong at the same wedding. Some of the truly mismatched bridesmaids dresses look a hot mess, and can look as though each girl was going to a different event, rather than standing in the same wedding party.

I kinda love the idea of mismatching! Everyone has the opportunity to buy a cute dress in their budget that they feel comfortable in, which is nice. However, I agree with Cece that some rules should be made so it's cohesive.

Ideally? We’d go back to the days when attendants wore a nice dress of their own choosing and not have to look like a chorus line. Either that or brides would pay like they do in the UK. The only reason we pay here in the US is on the theory bridesmaids have input and keep the dress to wear again. Ha. When the average bridesmaid spends >$1000, much more in some circles, it would, perhaps send a message to rein in all the other over the top expectations as well.

That’s not likely to happen, but bridesmaids at the very least are supposed to be consulted as budget and style. I think what CeCe describes is pretty reasonable.

My colors are Purple and Turquoise so there will be several shades of each. My 3 bridesmaids will wear lavender dress in their style of choice. I MOH will wear dark purple in her style of choice. guys will wear turquoise button down shirt with black dress pants with purple tie. the ring bearer will match the guys. something to this sort.

And my Flower girl will be wearing this dress. (her mom supposed to have ordered this dress Sunday Night) it matches her rose petals that she will be throwing.

Matching dresses can be nice for a traditional look, but I think mixing it up adds a personal touch to the wedding party.

I usually prefer mix and match because it looks really beautiful and each person can pick something that fits their style best. But I think matching can look good too, especially if you have a small bridal party.

Mine had different blues and greens and it looked stunning in person (especially next to our moms' outfits which used even more shades).Share your thoughts! Bridesmaids attire - 4

I’m team matching color but the girls pick their own style to feel pretty and comfortable. I’ve been a bridesmaid many times and worn some doozies of dresses, but the only ones I really liked were the ones I got to pick. But I also think that a cohesive color scheme looks better and seems like they’re actually part of the wedding instead of people who happened to go stand up front.

I don't find grown women wearing matching doll dresses appealing. Maybe it's ok if everyone's young, but awkward if over 30. I like the other posters' idea of same color, different styles because we all have different bodies.

That makes a lot of sense. The styles change significantly as you get older and that should be represented when the bridal attendants are older.

Glad you like them! I let my ladies pick from whatever store they wanted. They bought them way back in 2020, so these exact styles aren't available anymore, but you could still find something similar.

Do you think there’s a minimum bridal party size for that to work?

I personally would say 4 or more, so it's clear who the MOH is.

Mine are wearing three different dress and two different colors. My maid and matron are in the same color of desert rose while the rest of the party is in dusty rose. My niece/ jr bridesmaid is in dusty rose like the rest of the girls but in a short dress.
