September Wedding and Covid

Lily, on June 12, 2020 at 3:17 PM Posted in Wisconsin Planning 0 10

My fiance and I are at a loss of whether to postpone our wedding in Milwaukee Wisconsin this september. We invited 250, and we don't want to cut it down. Anyone else having a similar problem deciding?

Hey girl, we postponed our April wedding here in Virginia to September. We had 100 people on the guest list and right now we will more than likely have to cut it down to 50. I know it’s not ideal, but go ahead and make a smaller list that way you’re not caught off guard the closer the date gets. Depending on whether or not you’ve already sent invitations will make a difference. You can always send the first round to the smaller number, and if you’re able to invite more you can send the next round two or three weeks later.

We are mid-August. We are leaning toward moving the big celebration and just having a small wedding with just our immediate family. We already pushed back the date once (originally a May bride). We just don't see things getting significantly better by August and we want people to be comfortable and have a blast at our wedding. I just don't see that happening currently.

Keep talking to your FH and decide what is important. It's a very hard decision.

How is your state doing with reopening ? What are the restrictions thus far in terms of capping gathering limits and did your venue say anything ?

Milwaukee entered phase 3 last week. Under phase three, businesses can operate at 50% of its building's capacity; restaurants and bars move from take out and delivery to having indoor service at 25% capacity, while salons and barbershops will stay at 25% capacity with one client-per worker ratios. Hotels can hold 50%.

I’m in NY, nowhere near the city but we still are phase 1/2. I’m supposed to get married in September and many other couples are postponing. We really can’t cut a list because it’s mostly family....thinking we are going to have to pull the trigger here soon but I’m just in denial I suppose. My venue is a hotel and they just opened today. But who knows what a wedding will look like gloves/masks/no dance floor/etc. I’m at a loss.

I think you answered your own question. If your city/state had gathering restrictions come September, then you will have to postpone. It also depends on your venue capacity limit. If your venue holds 500 then you might be good if the gathering limits are at 50%.

I made the decision to postpone back in April for our June wedding and I don’t regret it. You just have to be firm and confident in your decision. People need ample time to cancel accommodations so they aren’t penalized. However most business, airline and hotel, have been pretty good about refunding. I know your head is spinning and you feel lost, but you’re not alone. Way the pros and cons with your fiancé and go from there. The hard part is making that decision with ample amount of time.

Hey Lily, I am a fellow September bride in Milwaukee! Our guest list is 215 and this past week our venue told us they can accommodate 120 people due to social distancing measures, assuming Milwaukee is in phase 4 of reopening plans by mid-September. We probably could cut the guest list down, but we are strongly leaning towards having a smaller ceremony + celebration with 50 people this year and postponing the large reception with all 215 guests to fall 2021. I know it's an extremely tough decision, but for me I feel a lot more excited and hopeful about an intimate celebration this year vs. throwing a party that feels limited/restricted. Best of luck to you and your FH in making your decision!

We just postponed our September Milwaukee area wedding of 160 guests to next year. It's heartbreaking but it needed to be done.

We postponed our May reception to August, and are now postponing the reception again. Have you considered a small ceremony to get married with your parents/siblings/wedding party, and celebrating on your one year anniversary or something? I know its not ideal, but its something to consider.
