Sensa or Phentermine Anyone?

Donya, on April 1, 2013 at 4:36 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 19

Have any of you tried these two products? I have friends on both and they swear by them. I have over a year to drop 20lbs, but I just need a kickstart. Your thoughts?

Quick summary: There is not a lot of evidence that Sensa will help you lose weight, but it probably won't hurt you, either. Phentermine probably will help you lose weight short-term, but you'll probably gain it all back once you stop taking it--and you'll have lots of side effects in the interim.

I was on phentremine last year for 3 months. My doctor put me on it for three months because I was obese, and being that my cholesterol was high, BP was high, and you see the picture. I lost a lot of water weight the 1st 2 weeks, then after that it was a gradual thing. You still have to watch what you eat and exercise though. Phentremine has nothing to do with the metabolism, it's a neuropsychiatric drug, you will have to understand that. It does suppress your appetite, and if you have an addicting personality, it's not for you. While you're on it , your doctor will want to see you every month, you can't be on it after 3 months. I lost a total of 28 lbs while I was on it, my labs and bp stabilized and still is. You ask if I want to be on it again? NO ma'am.

20 lbs in a year is VERY doable by just watching your eating habits and moving more. I would steer clear of any sort of pharmaceutical. Not only do most of them either have proven negative effects on the body, or not enough studies done, you are almost guaranteed to gain back the weight when you are off of them.

Please do not go that route. There is no magic pill and ALL of the available medications (prescription and "dietary supplements") have potentially dangerous side effects. You will still need to develop good eating habits and exercise regularly regardless. It's about changing lifestyle in order to lose the weight and keep it off. Use this community to help keep you motivated!

I agree - lose weight sensibly. Did you know you can lose up to 1/2 lb a week just by taking a brisk 20 minute walk every day? The idea is to burn more calories than you eat and if you just know you won't stick to a healthy diet then increase your physical activity.

Another benefit of exercising is that it boosts your metabolism at the time you exercise but you also continue to burn calories at a higher rate for as much as an hour afterwards. So, brisk walk then eat dinner and you get double the benefit.

    Good luck!

Motivation is what i'm sincerely lacking. I've put on about 30lbs in the last 2yrs, most of it in the last 6mo. I was walking during my lunch hour at work, but they changed my schedule so I'm up at 4am, at work at 6 and lunch is now at 10am. I usually end up going to my car for a nap after a light snack (4 is an ungodly hour to wake up and 10 is a terrible time to try to eat). After work, i'm in traffic for about 45min, so by the time I get home, i'm worn out. I'd love to walk around my neighborhood, but my neighbors suck at picking up after their dogs so it nauseates me just to be outside. I know the ins and outs of weight loss, I just have to figure out how to get them to work in my day.

Hey I’m on Phentermine (prescription) 15 ml one time a day and have been since like February I think. I’m down from 283 lbs to 269 lbs but I’m stuck, and now I’m hungry all the time, soooooo I’m cutting calories to 1000 a day instead of the 2051 it takes to stay at my current weight. I have 2 months left until the wedding and I don’t care if I have to go buy a new dress b/c mine is too big for me – if I’m in a size 14 then I’ll be *happy*, I think my size would only be 16 actually but whatever.

Ummm @ Anonymous. Isn't the minimum intake for a woman (I am assuming you are a woman) 1200 calories? Anything less is pretty unhealthy. (If you want proof, I can list various studies)

Well I am on phentermine. THis is my 6th week on it and I have lost 23 lbs. I will say that at first the side effects where horrible. Could not sleep, crabby, irritable but then I guess I just got used to them. I bought my dress 2 sizes too small because it was the biggest size they carried it in since it was a special custom dress and I tried it on on Monday and thank God it fits perfect. I know I will lose more while I am on the pills which I do not mind, but I was told by my doctor that I have to maintain it off because he will not give them to me again. SO I have incorporated working out and eating better with them so that when I am off of them I know what I have to do to keep it off.

I am on phentermine as well and it really does help. I've lost 20lbs so far. The side effects were pretty annoying but after a while it was fine. You have to be motivated to change your lifestyle though, they aren't "magic pills", they just help suppress appetite until you have better control of it.

Mmm yea 20 lbs in a year is only less than 2 lbs a month. Just eating a little better and doing some cardio a few days a week will knock that out easy! And you'll be much healthier to boot!

I'm scared to death of both. I browsed the weight loss isle today for a quick fix and I think I'll just stick with a cleansing system, healthy eating and taking my vitamins. In the past few months, I've been getting terrible panic attacks during my period and caffeine (which is a main ingredient in a lot of these drugs) makes it 1000 times worse.

Please be careful with what you put in your body. You're beautiful and special enough to have found someone to love you no matter how you look.

Okay so day 2 of the 1000 calorie or less diet, um I think it's more like 1200 or less haha because I think that's what I've had to eat, so scratch that. question why in the morning after you urinate do you weigh less then when you weigh yourself at night? And is it true we should weigh ourselves like only once a week? According to the scale I'm down 3 lbs but that's in the morning and in 2 days, so I doubt it. here are my goals. This is my weight *now*, and my goal weight of 220 (for the wedding) my real goal is 180 which is a virtual model (the smallest one).

I've been on Phentermine 2x now. Lost a bunch of weight (30lbs) the 1st time, and gained it back, then some. 2nd time, didn't lose a thing, but gained 10 more lbs within the 2 months after. Read the warnings and side effects, they're real. This is a drug that does work, and you'll experience great effects with weight loss and increased energy, but it's not something that could be maintained; I have yet to hear more stories about the great effects of Phentermine, and how people have kept the weight off even after going off the drug, than all the negative feedback and experiences on here. A healthy diet & exercise is the best medicine; being comfortable in your own skin, while staying active and healthy is key. Allowing a drug like this to take away your ability to do that is just not worth it for the short-lived period of weight loss. And the long-term effects of this drug could be even greater a problem than you anticipate. I read a lot of useful info about phentermine 37.5 mg at
