Secrets Cozumel or Secrets Wild Orchid/st. James?

Amber, on July 11, 2019 at 6:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
Has anyone been to Secrets Cozumel or Secrets Wild Orchid/St. James? We’re planning a destination wedding and we’re torn. The reviews for Secrets Cozumel are very mixed (older resort and the food isn’t great) but it would be more convenient and cheaper for our guests. The Jamaican resorts have good reviews but have very limited availability. Our first choice was Secrets Akumal but their wedding team has been slow to answer questions and their availability is also very limited.

    Hey Amber!

I think that you are and your SO should discuss what is most important for you to get from your destination wedding. Are great food and convenience for your guests high on your priority list? Have you visited either or both of these locations? Have you contacted their wedding teams for more information? They may be able to answer some of your questions that you are trying to figure out.

When you say there is limited availability, do you mean dates available for your wedding or availability for your guests to stay?

I’m very familiar with the Secrets brand (FH and I are members of their vacation club). That said, I haven’t personally been to either property. However, I haven’t been disappointed in any of their properties. If you’re comfortable with the planners at Cozumel, go there! Akumal is going to book up further out because it’s one of their higher tier resorts. I met someone on my last trip that had gotten married at Cozumel and raves about it. St. James is supposed to be beautiful, but I’d guess their rooms are more expensive as well. Make sure you check out their various wedding packages. I did a ton of research as we thought we were going to get married at one of their resorts so feel free to PM me with questions.

Limited availability meaning limited dates available for our wedding. Pretty much every Friday, Sat and Sunday is booked in April, May and June at Akumal. There’s a bit more availability at Cozumel.

As for what what we want, we just want our friends and families to have fun and relax for a few days! I’ve been so stressed about how to pick a location that works for everyone, stay within everyone’s budgets and still have the wedding my FH and I want.
