Scotland honeymoon!

Long Distance Bride, on June 7, 2017 at 1:22 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 7

Guys! We are last-minute planning a honeymoon to Scotland in early August. I am over the moon, so excited!!

Does anyone who has been there have recommendations of fun things to do or see, that's off the beaten tourist path?

I've never been to Scotland, so I don't have suggestions. But FH and I also planned a last minute honeymoon. We are going to Ireland in August. We just booked last week.

Congratulations! I hope you have a great time!

I love Scotland! We loved the seaside around Turnberry/Girvan. If you can, make a stop in Ayr. Visit distilleries, see the country side, and go to Glasgow.

"Last minute?" August is still months away.

I have never been to Scotland, but a friend of mine spent time there during college and she had an amazing time. I hope you do, too!

I'm kicking myself because I don't remember the name of the smaller island I visited by Edinburgh. It has Augustinian abbey ruins. Beautiful. And the boat ride there was part of the wonder. Definitely bring a jacket even if it's august. Especially if you get on a boat. I was in Edinburgh for a week and it was perfect. Museums are great. The elephant house where Jk Rowling wrote Harry Potter. Underground Edinburgh tour. Scary/historical tours. Definitely buy fudge, yummy! Nightclubs are great, locals dress up.

I love, love, love Scotland and that's where we went a gazillion years ago. We rented a car, stayed in b&b's we booked every morning for that evening, really did the seat of the pants thing...

You'll probably fly into London, which is fun in itself. Rent a tiny car, drive up the coast. Don't miss Edinburgh, Glascow (ya gotta, right) but leave enough time to meander and get lost. Eat everything possible (including Haggis....), hang in the pubs, go to the Whisky Museum.

Before you go, watch 'Local Hero", an adorable movie from a long time ago. There is a town in it named Pennan. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pennan ) It's totally adorable.

If we had more time, I'd go to the Isle of Skye.

Hi! I lived in Edinburgh for 4 years, so I love Scotland! August is the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, which is one of the largest festivals in the country. You'll have a wide range of comedy shows, plays, concerts, and events to choose from if you're in town for it. Book accommodations early though...it gets expensive quick!

Arthur's Seat is definitely a must do. I'm not a hiker by any means, so we always took the more gradual path, but the view from up top is amazing. Calton Hill is also a much easier trek that provides a great panoramic view as well, but I'm also biased because my FH proposed to me up there Smiley smile

For off the beaten path, I highly recommend getting a car. The drive up to Loch Ness (we usually go west first and then up) is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. Fort William is also a cute little town along the way.
