Scaling back wedding - help with wording for 'un-invites'?

Sylvana, on April 13, 2021 at 10:15 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

Hello All,

We've had to scale back our wedding and are preparing to send out the updates to those that we will unfortunately need to cut from the in person guest list. Most of what is written I've seen on other posts from brides in similar situations so I think it's ok, but wanted to make sure and have someone else proofread it for me. Here's what I've got:

Unfortunately, due to the circumstances of the continued pandemic and in order to comply with the regulations of our venue, we have made the difficult decision to reduce our in-person guest list to immediate family and bridal parties.

While we will not let the pandemic postpone our wedding celebration another year, we have had to alter our original plans to ensure the safety of all of our loved ones. We hope to get together with you sometime in the future when it is safe to do so. We thank you for your love & support.

For those who so choose, we will be live streaming our event so you can attend virtually and partake in our celebration. The Zoom link will be available on our wedding website www.theknot.com/xxxxxx on the morning of August 7th, 2021 along with the start time.

That's it! What do you think? Is there anything missing? Rewording needed? Too long? Thanks in advance!!

I think it’s perfect! I’ve seen people post on their social media similar statements and everyone is quite understanding!

I think it sounds good! One minor wording suggestion: maybe instead of, "For those who so choose,...", you could instead say something along the lines of, "We will be live streaming our ceremony, and we would love for you to celebrate with us virtually! The Zoom link will be..."

I think it sounds fine. But I think it would be better to reach out to the guests you are now uninviting via telephone rather than just send them something generic.

I think this is perfect! I do think, depending on your original guest list size and closeness to them, I would reach out and speak to those un-invited guests personally! At least the ones that you would want there!

I like this. It definitely makes it feel more like an invite as opposed to an afterthought - "we hope you will join us" versus "should you choose to join us."

Looks good! People will be understanding. One minor edit - “wedding party” instead of “bridal parties”, unless you’re only referring to bridesmaids.

I think it sounds perfect! If I received it I wouldn’t take offense at all and it’s nice that you provided the option to watch on zoom!

Agree with this. This is a conversation better suited over the phone than a mass mailing letter.

We are in the process of doing that as well. We are just sending this out so everyone has a physical reminder of the date and our website.
