Save the dates/rsvp/invitations

Aimee, on January 7, 2021 at 3:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 13
So my FH and I are very behind with the Save the Dates. We are getting married June 5th of this year, and we have not sent Save the Dates out yet or even ordered them. Should we just send our invitations/RSVPs out early instead? My FH wants to still order them and send them out, but we are going be sending out invitations not long after. I think it may be a waste to send out Save the Dates at this point and to just send our invitations/RSVPs. Any suggestions on what we should do, or any ideas on what you have done???

I would just send the invitations 8 weeks out.

I think you could do it either way? At this point there's no reason to send save the dates since that's meant as a longer term placeholder on people's calendars. But if that really matters to you that people have save the dates then no one is going to say anything. You could definitely skip them and save the money though.

Save the dates are mailed out 6 months prior. At this point, just send a verbal save the date via email/phone as is traditional (notice via postcards/magnets is new but notice via phonecall is old as time). It gives guests a timely heads up. Send out invites at the standard 6-8 weeks.

I sent mine out last year the week of January 15th for a June 7th wedding. It was only waste because we ended up postponing. But you definitely want to give people a heads up either way. I ordered off minted and they arrived within 3-4 days.

I have already given a lot of "heads up" notice to close friends and family, and they spoke to others about our date. We live in a small town, so word spreads quick! Haha

Yes. At this point theres not really a point in sending save the dates. I would send invitations ASAP so people know what the date is and have them RSVP by sometime in April or May

YUP. This was me. Wanted to send them out before Xmas but the holidays got in the way, STDs went out first week of Jan for a mid June wedding (obvi postponed). I was more pissed I put my real invites in the mail on March 8. 😡😡😡

It’s become comical at this point. We got JOP married for insurance reasons, and postponed our reception to Dec 2020 and sent pretty “change the dates”. We then postponed a whole year after that to this December. I sent a THIRD save the date, this time not cutesy and pretty, but instead with grumpy cat on it, because nobody should have to postpone a wedding twice, and I’m damn sure not happy about it.

You could do virtual save the dates (saves money and time) and then send your invites whenever you're ready to send those out.

Save the dates really aren't a requirement. If you're going to be having a destination wedding it probably wouldn't hurt to send them even if it's just virtually like pp stated, but otherwise I'd just stick to the invites 8 weeks out.

If you can't have your save the dates ordered and sent by the end of the month, I would skip them. Just send your invitations out at the 8 week mark, which is standard.
