Save the Dates & Magnets

Stacey, on October 5, 2020 at 6:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

We got our Save the Dates back from our printer last week, and they came out exactly as I envisioned! We did not use a photo, but instead I spent a lot of time designing them with our stationery vendor, and was so happy with how they looked. We mailed them out to each of our parents right away, mostly as a test to see how long the mail is taking nowadays. My mom got hers pretty quickly, but when she called the first thing she said was, "How am I supposed to stick this on my fridge?" Smiley xd That's it mom?? So, of course I overthought that comment a million times over, went to Michael's this weekend, purchased some self-adhesive magnets, and put them on the back of all of the rest before mailing them out today. Ugh, moms!! Lol. Anyone else get feedback about Save the Dates without magnets?

I did magnet save the dates because I have often thought the exact same thing! How am I supposed to put this on my fridge?!?!?
I’m glad you thought to send the two out early and were able to make the others magnets before sending the out!

Good idea to put the magnets on yourself! My Save The Dates were wooden magnets, the biggest issue we had was figuring out how to mail them! Once everyone got them, we got good feedback from our guests on them.

I really, really don't get why sending magnets with a save the date would be required. I hope adding magnets to your envelopes didn't astronomically increase your postage!

Some people like to put magnets and cards on their fridge; they already have some magnets with which to hang a card they want to display. Some people don't put magnets on their fridge (they have a non-magnetic surface, they don't like clutter, whatever reason) so they wouldn't need you to send them one; they will put the save the date some place else.

This isn't to criticize you for doing it this way, but more to reassure anyone else planning to send out non-magnet save the dates that you don't need to run out and get magnets now!

I totally agree with you! I was so happy with how they looked, and that's all she said. It never even crossed my mind. I told my FH, "She's unhappy that there isn't a magnet on the back," and his response was "Tell her to just put a magnet on the front!" Smiley xd Smiley xd

(they were really small, thin magnets, so no extra postage or I would not have even considered it!)

I personally like the magnets better because people can stick them to their fridge and don't have to try to remember where they put it. We have save the dates from almost every wedding we have been to hanging on our fridge.

DH wanted to get magnets, but I veto-ed the idea, because I didn't want people throwing out magnets after the STD was no longer useful.

But we also like to buy magnets as our souvenirs when we go places, so it's easy for us to just stick stuff on the fridge!
