Savannah, GA honeymoon

GamblinWoman, on February 16, 2017 at 4:38 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 15

FH and I are looking at honeymoon locations. We originally talked about going to Gatlinburg, but with our wedding being in June, I would LOVE the beach to be accessible (I also haven't been to the beach in years!). Has anyone honeymooned or vacationed in Savannah that can give me some tips or great hotels? I've looked online at some and am obsessed with the older buildings turned into hotels, but I haven't seen any of these or their locations in person to know if it's worth it! FH and I are both history nerds so I thought Savannah may be perfect!

    Hi!

Having just moved from Atlanta, I have to say Savannah, GA has nothing on Charleston, SC. I'm a huge history buff and love love love Charleston. And it's on the beach! My fiance and I have never had a bad time there, one of our favorite spots and we just said yesterday we should think about Charleston as a honeymoon option!

    Good luck!

I'm going to Savannah/Tybee Island for my honeymoon. Rented an awesome condo on Tybee Island, 20 minutes away from Savannah, right on the beach! If you are looking for an island vibe, I'd check out some accommodations on Tybee and either rent a car or Uber to Savannah.

We live in central Alabama, so the heat is nothing for us! Glad to hear what some of you enjoyed and that it's worth it! Thank you all!

I lived in Savannah for 2 years--it's a great city. Stay downtown in one of the historic hotels and you'll be walking distance to everything cool historically (the squares, the older buildings), plus great food and drink. Tybee Island is roughly a 20-25 minute drive from downtown, and you can easily get out there. It's a great beach--quiet, clean (and there's good food and drink out there as well).

We loved Savannah. Insider tip- you can walk around the streets with alcoholic beverages. FH and I thought they were joking when they asked if we wanted our cocktails to go. Bay Street is fun. Stay in the historic downtown and you can walk to most things.

Savannah is amazing. I am going there this week for my bachelorette! I went to a wedding last year in one of the old buildings turned hotels that you mentioned, and it was a great place to stay. Pretty sure it was the Hilton garden inn

Tybee island is a great beach. And you'd be just south of Hilton head which I hear is very nice too.

Went to Savannah for New Years and I was less than impressed. I don't plan to go back again. Going to Charleston in April and I'm super excited. I hear it is gorgeous! Florida is not far from Savannah either so maybe try farther south.

I went to Savannah in April a few years back and it was awesome! It wasn't super warm, but I assume by June, it heats up. The history of the town was incredible. My friend and I went for our spring break, but spent the whole time going to museums and doing ghost tours and soaking up the architecture. There is a tapas bar with live music called Jazz'd that we fell in love with, so if you go, check it out! We also went to Tybee Island and it was really cute. I absolutely loved it there and I want to go back so bad.

Look at the River Street Inn! The location is perfect! You can walk to a ton of restaurants and bars. The hotel is gorgeous! We took a Saturday and drove the 30 minutes to Tybee Beach. Had a great time! Enjoy!!

I got engaged in Savannah and we go usually at least once a year. Personally, I like Charleston better- nicer beaches and it's a bigger city so there's a little more to do. But Savannah is gorgeous and fun too! There's open container in the historic district so you can just walk around with a drink.

You definitely want dinner reservations at The Olde Pink House. And depending on what you're looking for hotel wise, either pick something near or on river street. If you want to splurge (realizing you'll be about 0.5 miles from River Street, The Mansion on Forsyth Park is generally considered to be one of the nicest hotels in Savannah. It's going to be extremely hot and humid in early June. I was there June 10-12 last year and it was between 85-95 degrees and felt like 105 with roughly 80% humidity, so just fair warning there.

I live 20 min outside of downtown Savannah. FH and I love downtown. River street is where most of the action is but any hotel in the downtown area would be within walking distance for you. I highly recommend J. Christopher's for brunch we go every weekend! Also savannah bee company, city market, trolley tours, and Savannah slow ride (bike tour)! It will be super humid day and night so pack sundresses or loose tops!

We had my bachelorette party in Savannah. It’s such a fun city. And the beach is only about 30ish minutes away. We rented an Airbnb, but I’ve also stayed at a really nice actual Bed & Breakfast there called the East Bay Inn. It was so nice, had great breakfast, & wine & hors d’oeuvres in the afternoons. It was also in a great location.
