San Diego Honeymoon?

Kelly, on February 1, 2013 at 4:19 PM Posted in Honeymoon 1 13

Hi Smiley smile I'm getting married September 28, 2013 and my fiance and I are playing around with the idea of going to San Diego for our honeymoon. We have a few problems though and I'd like to see if anyone has any ideas Smiley smile

1. We have a very limited budget so I'm having problems finding places to stay. We'd like to stay under $2,000 for the whole trip and we're flying from Detroit so getting there and back is going to take up half of that money. We'd like to stay on or within walking distance to a beach. I've been looking at priceline vacation packages but the reviews are so varied for the same hotel. :/

2. We're under 25 so we can't rent a car. Therefore transportation is a problem. I've seen that San Diego might have public transportation but it's not very reliable? I'm not sure what that means.

We decided on going there because of the zoo and we don't really know what else we want to do so if anyone has any suggestions for that too, that would be awesome Smiley smile Thanks. Smiley smile

I cant help you to much but i can tell you that like most city buses the drivers have to deal with rude, crazy and handy capped people plus traffic so don't be surprised if a bus is 15 minutes late. price-line loves to brag about there great prices. i have actually found them less useful. look up motel 6 econo lodge and other common affordable hotels with in a block or 2 of the beach. that's not so far. so you can still walk. and when you get off the plain ask some one at the desk of they have a hotel guide book. they have coupons. also, will either of you have already turned 25 by the trip date? or how would you feel about driving to san diego? my step daughter was to young to rent a car for her honey moon so my husband and i put it on our credit card and in his name. (we also got the insurance on it) then they drove it. and returned it. i dont know what there is to do in san diego.. im sorry. but you can go to: visit san diego .com <-no spaces. and check out what

Been to San Diego a few time, I have family there. Traffic can be horrible depending on where. I believe you can still rent a car, you would have to pay extra fee and insurance will be required.

You have the zoo, beach , bars, Tijuana is a short drive if that's something that interests you.

But if your going cause of zoo have you thought of Orlando Fl. They have sea world and Disney and Universal.

San Diego public transportation is great for getting around downtown, but it is a bit of a pain elsewhere. They do have one of the best public transportation systems in the US, but you do have a bit of a walk from the bus stop to your actual destination.

TBH, I think a cruise would be your best bet for a honeymoon on your budget. It's all-inclusive, meals and entertainment, and you don't have to pay for transportation. If you must, maybe you can leave from San Diego and one day go to the zoo using a cab.

    Ooh, I love San Diego!!

If you stay outside of actual San Diego or on the outskirts you can pay anywhere from $60-100/night. Since we use the hotel just to sleep, we're ok with a 2 star, and have stayed at a nice red roof inn for $60/night. Becareful of prices that look great on priceline - we bid on a downtown hotel and thought we got a great deal for a 4 star $90/night and ended up paying $20/night parking, $25/night "activity fee" (for nothing!) plus various other costs and really didn't save a thing.

I believe under 25 you can still rent a car - I did years ago, I just had to provide my own insurance (regular car insurance) and I think pay a little extra. I'm not overly familiar with the transit system, but we took a bus and trolley and did ok. To go outside the actual downtown area though, you might need a car.

I highly recommend the farmers market in little italy, shopping/kayaking in la jolla, and balboa park!

I live in San Diego and I find that public transportation isn't all that bad. I love the trolley and while the bus does take longer to get around, you just have to plan for it. There are websites that help you figure out which way to go. If you can stay in Mission Valley or even El Cajon while its not on the beach it is not that far way from the beach.

Sorry I can't help you Smiley sad We actually postponed our wedding until this September and will now be spending our honeymoon in Atlanta/Savannah! Our main draw to San Diego was the baby panda, and now Georgia has twins! Smiley smile Good luck planning!

I live in San Diego. Try looking for a place to stay on airbnb. We rent out our room, but it's a ten minute drive to the beach. As for things to do, I can give you a ton. Just contact me if you want to know them. I could possibly even take you on a private whale watching tour. We own our own sailboat

If you come here for just the Pandas, or the zoo, I don't know what to say.
