rsvp Dissapointment

Rachel, on August 17, 2019 at 9:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 66
Well. I invited 157. I gave a guess at 130 being yes, with low of 120. I’m sad to say I’ve paid 70% of catering, and my rsvps didn’t even come in to 80. I’m disappointed in my friends. And my family. And my fiancé’s family. STD went out in January. I had to bug the last 50 people to get an rsvp from them at all. I just feel let down and that no one cares. It’s specificslly on a date where people we work with and our friends are off work.

Antone else had had this happen and have some good things to say? Thanks community of brides and grooms. ♥️

I am sorry this happened, I am sure they care. Holiday weekends can get busy with so many obligations.

Try to think of it the other way - that you'll have a blast with the people who will be going.

We had about 54/120 come. It was a little disappointing seeing some of the people i really wanted there, but we had tons of fun with those who could come!

I am sorry bride but remember as some other wise bride or groom said: It is an invite not a summons. You will be able to spend more time with the people that came!! Enjoy your day!!!

I'm sorry you feel let down. Try not to take it too personally though, as hard as that may be. You will still have a wonderful day regardless of who does or doesn't show because your have your FH by your side 💞

My numbers are very close to yours. Invited 154 and i think we will end up with 80. Not all rsvps are in and there still is some time.
When i booked my venue i booked it with the least amount of guests i could. Which was 80.
Although we started with this many, i was never convinced we would even go beyond 100. 80% of our guests are from out of state and out of the country.
I am just so excited about the people coming, its not all an issue for me. Honestly 80 ppl is still a lot of guests. Lol.

So sorry that you are feeling disappointed! We also had a much smaller wedding than we envisioned when sending out our invites. I actually enjoyed how intimate it was as we got to spend more time with each of our guests. (And spoil them with more food to meet our minimums!)

I’m sorry you feel like this. I see your wedding is on a Monday so that might be hard for a lot of people. Whoever loves you would be there with you guys and you’ll really love a small wedding. You’ll have more time to mingle with all those that made the effort to go.

Sorry that you’re going through this ,but I definitely know how you feel that happened to us. even with some of the people that had already RSVP last minute They didn’t show up but just think it’s your wedding and you’re there to have a blast .

    Also...
A very positive way to see it is you're saving money. Less people is less cost per person, less chairs to rent, tables, centerpieces, cake, favors, escort cards, thank you notes.
There’s a lot of positives so see it that way instead.

Your coworkers and friends might be off on Monday Sept. 9, but if you invited 157 people there are probably a whole lot of other people who are not off work on a Monday in September, especially the Monday right after a long weekend. I know I would have difficulty taking off work the Monday after a holiday Monday, for a number of reasons. If it were out of town I definitely would have a problem getting approval to take off Tuesday as well.

I'm curious though, why did you pay for catering based on estimated numbers (70%) rather than final RSVP numbers? That's unusual.

I think this is common. I had asked in the forum about this a while back. We had to give an estimated count. Ours was 120. We paid half. The price will not be adjusted when we pay in full even if we had only 50 people.

I work in the theatre industry, and we are all off on Monday nights, and do not work again until Wednesday, so Monday is our Saturday. We do not perform that day or evening. And, vast majority are in town so it’s odd. As far as the catering, we had to pay a deposit based on an estimate of 70% of our estimated total. Which is the norm.

Awesome to hear, it’s good to know this is not out of the norm for rsvp!

We are on a Monday because we are professional actors and that is our night off, and all of our friends nights off as well! Monday is our Saturday ♥️
