Hey! My FH and I were thinking about registering for our honeymoon which we are planning on taking a cruise with Royal Caribbean. Has anyone tried it? What are thoughts?

Don’t register at all - people will get the idea and gift you cash and you can use it as you please.

If you can’t afford a honeymoon, please do not depend on wedding gifts to finance your vacation. What happens if everything you register for doesn’t get filled and you can’t afford the balance? Save up and go on a bomb anniversary vacation.

Well we are also considering registering at Bed Bath and Beyond. We have about 140 guests. We are planning on just keeping two small registries so that way people who would rather get a gift know what we would like. We can most certainly pay for the honeymoon.

I am thinking about doing one with carnival but my FH family doesn’t even want us going on a cruise so I am thinking of doing a honeymoon fund at the wedding but his family thinks we are just wanting peoples money and that’s not it at all.

It’s really tasteless and rude to your guests to ask them to fund your vacation. That is SO expensive, and even if lots of guests make smaller contributions, it’s a ridiculous and very greedy ask.

I mean you’re directly asking for cash, which is a huge social no-no. Even if your intentions aren’t greedy, it comes off that way to everyone else. Just have no registry or a small registry and most guests will gift you cash without having to prompt them to.

It works where they can give you a "gift" of funding part of your excursions or a dinner at a restaurant and it is through a website.

Well we don't live on our own so we don't want to entirely register for things for our home since we don't need it. I had a friend who registered for her honeymoon with her husband at Disney and people seemed to like it.

Are you planning on living on your own? I would think two married adults would like their own home. You should save any cash you receive at the wedding and put it in a savings account for your future.

Then have a small registry or no registry and others will gift you cash. I already said this to someone else who responded to this thread. There are other things to register for like wine or beer, camping gear if you’re into that stuff, etc. It doesn’t need to be home goods. But those honeymoon fund sites just cut you a check and take a fee so it’s not even like you get all the money that’s supposed to be the value of the excursion or vacation. It’s the equivalent of asking for cash. As a guest I wouldn’t want to purchase a “date night” at a restaurant for $100 when you only get a $80-90 check and maybe decide to do something else with the money.

We will probably a little while after the wedding. I'm still in graduate school (graduating in May). So it'll be just a little longer until we get a house.

Yes to all of this. OP, if you’re going to be married, don’t you at least need some basics to start your own home when you finally get one? Like new sheets and towels, a matching dining set and flatware? It doesn’t have to be that much stuff. And the rest will be cash placed in a card. I’d totally use that to save up for my own place if I were you. My FH and I currently live with roommates and we just bought a place but haven’t closed yet. Nearly everything in our apartment are hand me downs and we have appliances that are barely working. You bet I’m buying some basics for our new place and registering for the rest like a vacuum, extra place settings for dinner parties, an actual working blender that doesn’t short out after a few seconds, etc.

This is just a fancy way of asking your guests for money, which is rude on a lot of levels.

Go on a honeymoon you can afford. It is rude to ask for money. A honeymoon isnt the key to a successful, happy marriage!

I had an NCL registry. It was wonderful. We ended up using it to pay for high end dinners, spa experiences and excursions. We paid for the cruise ourselves.

My fiance and I are registering.

    1) Most couples live together before they get married (as for my fiance and me, we have been living together for 3 years and already have all the basic necessities that most people would gift at weddings).

    2) The most I have seen a honeymoon registry charge is 2%-3%, so while they will take some of the proceeds, its a very small fraction of what you will actually get.

    3) Every guest who I have asked about a honeymoon registry was all for it and very supportive of the idea. The times have changed and most people do not want physical gifts, supported by point #1.

    4) No one is asking for guests to pay for the entire honeymoon. It's a cruise...all that's available for a registry through Royal Carribean are excursions and dining/drink packages.

I say go for it, it's a nice way for people to be directly tied to a fun and memorable moment of your life. A lot of people nowadays rather see you enjoy their gifts rather than put them on display in a kitchen cabinet.
