Royal Caribbean Cruise Honeymoon?

Victoria, on December 6, 2021 at 9:50 PM Posted in Honeymoon 6 11
Hi darlings! Has anyone gone on a Royal Caribbean cruise (or any other cruise for that matter) for their honeymoon?? Is it a good idea? Worth it? If not Royal Caribbean, what is another good line? We are looking to embark from any FL port, leaving mid November of 2022 (provided COVID permits)

I personally love Royal Caribbean. I’ve been on 2. These were several years ago ore covid. But, the food was pretty good and there is Lots to do on the bigger ships! I loved the flow rider a surfing simulator. They also have mini golf while some have go carts or ice skating.
If you’ve never been on one I would suggest a shorter cruise to try it out. Being sea sick for a week or longer isn’t fun especially on your honeymoon.

I LOVE RC. I have been on 6 (going on #7 in February) cruises with RC. We were supposed to cruise on our original honeymoon but cruising was still not a thing in January 2020. I would suggest you book reservations in the specialty dining rooms at least 2-3 nights of your cruise (5-7 day) or at least 1 night (3-4 day) as they are totally worth it and the experience is amazing. Do NOT book these reservations for your first evening, wait for night two or later. Book at least a balcony stateroom since it is your honeymoon, we had a suite booked for ours which we actually transferred to our upcoming cruise in February. Suites are worth the extra if you can splurge. If you are drinkers (coffee or booze or both) get the all inclusive drink package, it is worth every cent as you can use it for specialty coffee's and teas, bottles of water and soda and alcoholic drinks up to I believe $14, if it is over $14 they charge you the balance (example, a bloody Mary is $16 so they charged us $2 per bloody). Shore excursion's are great but you do not always need them in every port. The private island CoCo Cay is AMAZING and your drink package works on the island which is very helpful. The ships have always been very clean, are mostly newer builds and even the "older" ships are renovated and no more than 25 year's old. The stateroom's can be tight, as in most cruise ships, do not expect your average hotel room sized room unless you book at least a Junior Suite. All of their staterooms include hairdryer and basic toiletries. Do not worry about bringing any snack foods as room service is provided 24 hours a day and food is always something you can find, this is of course unless you have a medical condition or food allergy that you would need to have certain foods available. The rooms also have mini-fridges for anything you might need refrigerated. Safes are also available in your room, we ALWAYS use our safe for things like our wallets, passports and jewelry. This is a safety precaution we do everywhere we travel, HINT to not forget about the items inside the safe, take one of your shoes and put it inside the safe with your things. I always use the shoes I wear in the airport, this way you will not forget your items as you will notice a missing shoe that you will be wearing home. They also provide pool towels on deck and you can bring them with you into the destinations so no need to bring pool towels, I do suggest packing a collapsible beach bag for days at sea and excursions to carry your towels and bottles of water. For days at sea it can be windy on deck, to keep your towels from flying away bring some of those towel clips, you can find them at Wal-Mart/Target, they really do come in handy. Bring a ziploc gallon baggie of minor medical supplies such as advil/tylenol, band aid's, tums, immodium, dramamine, sun burn cream/gel, etc. These items cost a LOT on board and even if you do not need them, you have them. I take this bag on all our vacations as it has been very helpful in the past. This also goes for sunscreen, bring more than you think you will need as onboard it's 3X the cost of what it is at Wal-Mart/Target on land. I usually throw an additional can or two in our bags depending on how long our cruise is that time. Your suitcases should fit under the bed so once you unpack you will have a lot of space freed up. I also suggest bringing your own Clorox wipes and doing a wipe down of the hard surfaces of your stateroom once you have gotten into it, this was something I did even before Covid due to my experience of 17+ cruises in my lifetime. It really just helps to fresh up the room as they do clean between guests, sometimes the surfaces can be sticky from their products. You will also want to pack a power strip with a surge protector so you can charge multiple devices at one time, they have very few outlets in the cabin. We also always bring an over the door organizer to place over our bathroom door for our bathroom toiletries as there is not a lot of space in the bathroom and this keeps things tidy and easy to get to. OH and since it is your honeymoon, bring/make a cute magnetic sign for your door!! This way you can find your cabin easily and people will know it's your honeymoon!! When you arrive at the port and check in, they will take your suitcases and deliver them to your stateroom which may or may not be available to you right away as they may still be cleaning and the hallways will be closed off. We wear backpacks with a change in under garments, a bathing suit and a light change in clothing so that way we can make it a few hours without our bags. Historically, we have received our bags within an hour or two of being on the ship but I have heard of others not getting theirs until dinner time, so best to just be prepared. Dinner the first night is always a more casual event so a sundress will be just fine. This is also why I do not book a specialty restaurant for our first evening just in case our suitcases do not arrive in a timely manner. Believe it or not, we get all of this in our carry-on size bags Smiley xd we are also Flight Crew so packing/traveling is our life.

Anyway! I know this was a lot lol I hope it helped and Happy Honeymoon Planning!!

I honestly have so many tips Smiley xd

    1. Bring a cardigan or shawl. Nights at sea can be chilly.

    2. Bring a small gift for your room steward. They clean your room everyday and even though you can tip them at the end of the cruise, a small gesture of gratitude on day 1 goes a long way. We usually bring them a card and a bag of candy. These are SO easy to pack in our backpack's.

    3. Earplugs. The walls are thin on all the ship's I have sailed on/with. If you are a light sleeper pop some of the small foam style ones into your suitcase.

    4. When booking a cabin, look at the location. Ideally, you want to be on a floor that is "sandwiched" between guest cabin floors. If you are located under a public space or a crew working space, it can be quite noisy. Once again, if you're a deep sleeper this won't be an issue for you but if you are like me and wake up to literally any sound, you will want to be away from public areas AND elevators. This also goes for motion sickness. If you are prone to motion sickness, book a cabin in a low deck in the middle of the ship. This is the part of the ship that feels the least amount of motion. High decks and either ends of the ship (bow front, stern back) you can feel motion in heavy seas. We are not typically affected by motion sickness in our family but my mom get's it occasionally so she always books a balcony room mid-ship.

17+ cruises you learn a lot. Smiley xd I can make a whole post on this including my packing lists if anyone is interested.

This was our balcony stateroom in use with the pull out bed on Mariner of The Seas. On this cruise we went with my parents and my children so we shared a state room with my daughter and my parents shared a state room with my son.

This was spring break 2019 cruise on Independence of The Seas with just mom and my kids. We had adjoining balcony state room so they were able to bring the divider down between the balconies and we had Mega-balcony.
Anyway, this shows you a variety of use of the state rooms on three different Royal Caribbean ships. Once again, I will be going on our next cruise in February and that one is it a Junior suite on navigator of the seas. I can do a whole post on how I prepare for that cruise and review but most likely you will have booked something by then so LOL

Haven't gone on any royal caribbean, but hubby and I are going on our honeymoon on an NCL cruise in 16 days. So excited! We have been on 2 other cruises before, but this one will be for 12 days to the Southern Caribbean and we are stoked.

Celebrity cruise line all the way. Hated our one cruise on RCL, and nearly kissed the deck when we got on our next (Celebrity) ship! We found the rooms were more spacious, room attendants more helpful, food of higher quality, and the biggest plus .... No nickel and diming you to death. Am also a frequent cruiser (10) so pretty well informed.

I am personally not the biggest fan of cruises, however I did go on a Royal Carribean cruise a few years ago and I loved it so much. The food was amazing, the employees were so nice and helpful, and most importantly, the ship was so clean all week.

Celebrity is our next adventure!! I am going be leveling up to Emerald with RCL next fall so that means more matching of benefits on Celebrity once I get to that status! We also want to try Virgin Voyages (adults only) but have heard some pretty mixed reviews.

I just wanted to chime in about Virgin Voyages. Just Say No. ROFLMAO There is NOTHING TO DO on the ship - sure, there's a lounge of sorts, but I swear they "roll up the sidewalks" so to speak right after dinner. Seriously, how many "talks" can you go to before wanting to jump overboard.

As far as Celebrity Cruise Line?? Once you get on this ship line, you'll hesitate to go back to RCL. We went on the newest ship, The Edge. Can I just say holy you-know-what!!!! What I really love about Celebrity (and hated on RCL) was that my cruise key card acted as my indicator of drink package - I didn't have to walk around the ship with my refillable tumbler all the time. That really annoyed the hell outta me. Plus, room service is free on CCL, and I felt that overall the service and attention was much higher compared to our RCL cruise.

    Just my 2 cents.

I love cruising and it's so good because everything is done for you pretty much and you can just relax and enjoy the cruise and enjoy everything without having to worry about anything. It's one of the best ways to travel I think Smiley smile
