Rings Soldered or Separate?

Yasmine, on May 26, 2021 at 8:14 AM Posted in Married Life 0 35

Just curious,

Did you or are you planning on having your rings soldered together? Or do you plan on leaving them separate? Why?

Right now, my rings are separated (pictured below). I am considering getting them soldered together mainly so that they won't turn. I know that some people wear only their wedding bands, but I LOVEEE how mine look together so I doubt that I will ever only wear the bands (I have 2 - one on top and one on the bottom). I've considered the pros and cons for each decision but haven't made my final decision yet.

What have you done or are planning to do?

I understand why you want them all as one ring. They look great together and it is easy to mistakenly think they already are one piece, they fit together that well.

My rings will be separate because I plan on sometimes just wearing the band so I don't damage my ring or loose the stone doing yard work, dishes, etc.

Thank you! And yes I definitely get that, so I am on the fence right now about which I want to do. Sometimes I take my rings off when doing those things, but again its taking 3 different rings off.

First, I have to say that your nails are super pretty! Love your rings, too!

I was debating whether to solder my rings after the wedding, but I think I decided to leave them separate. If we ever decide to replace/repair just one of them (like upgrading one for an anniversary, or replacing the diamonds if any fall out, etc), I would still be able to wear the other one and/or wouldn't have to worry about trying to separate them. If you don't think you'll ever replace just one (or if you'll get a whole new set if you do decide to replace them), then soldering isn't a bad idea!

Kept mine separate and it was the best decision I ever made! Doesn’t bother me at all!

Thank you! And I honestly didn't even think about upgrading the ring (which I am sure he eventually will). Or even servicing one, then I definitely would still wear the remainders. Thank you for bringing that scenario up

Our rings are similar! I did not solder mine either (first picture). The main reason is that I also bought a plain silver band with my wedding rings (second picture) and will wear that when we travel, etc. so that I don’t have to worry about my engagement ring being lost or stolen.

Oh yes that is very smart, especially if you travel to a Less Developed Country!

Mine are separate, and I plan to keep them that way. My ering has a rose gold twist band, and my wedding ring is a simple, thin gold band that belonged to my grandma. I could never have that soldered! I also like the look of my ering by itself and wear it like that from time to time.

I don't blame you for not wanting your grandmothers ring soldered

I kept my separate, so I could take off my e-ring and wear just the band. I don't like to wear my e-ring to clean, sleep, etc. but I want to keep a ring on, so no soldering for me.

I kept them separate. I like having the option of wearing just the wedding band, and I do often, especially now since I work in a hospital setting and gloves would rip with my engagement ring and I also wash my hands a million times a day.

Oh okay, see I absolutely love my engagement ring so I rarely ever take that off.

I have never wore just my bands and probably don't plan on it. I wash my hands a bunch too but it doesn't have an effect on any of my rings. But I can only imagine how your engagement ring would rip your gloves lol

I did solder mine! After the wedding I kept having to change them around because the engagement ring would keep sliding around and turning. I find it easier and don't regret it. Also to me they looked prettier as one! But to each her own!😀

I do too - but it's a high profile, so I don't want to get it caught on the sheets and it's just a bad idea to get a bunch of chemicals on it when cleaning. (Plus, my mom lost hers down a sink doing dishes the first year she and my dad were married and had to have her ring replaced, so I'm a little wary.)

No. Definitely not soldering my rings together. (For some reason, the thought of doing that makes me sad). LOL!

I also have the main engagement ring with two diamond bands and I like rearranging the order or wearing just 2 rings or even only 1. I do that now and sometimes I only wear the two diamond bands together.

I will be keeping my rings separate. I travel a lot and work out frequently so I want the option of only wearing my wedding band for those kind of situations. My engagement ring does turn a lot and it’s annoying but I just deal with it.

Mine are separate. They wouldn't match up very well, and I might very well need to use the plainer wedding band as a piece of a costume (theatre actor).

But my e-ring is a delicate filagree, so I wouldn't want to mess with it.
