Jewelry insurance through Jewelers Mutual is pretty reasonable. Their cost depends on the value of the jewelry you're wanting to insure, but they're pretty reasonable. We've had a good experience with them so far.

I have my engagement ring and enhancer insured through USAA (Will have my wedding ring insured through them as well as soon as we get them). It’s super affordable! The rings are $12,000 and the policy is like $6/mo

How does it work? Get them appraised somewhere first? Or just send pictures and receipts? Do you know exactly what your plan covers? I mean, I once almost lost the center diamond, and have it fixed right away. That scares me.

With our policy, we just had to fax them a copy of the official paperwork (with all the specs of the ring) and the appraisal from the jewelers that came with the ring. And it covers pretty much anything- theft, loss, fire, damage, lost stones, etc.

We just had to upload copies of our appraisal paperwork for the rings, and provide a description of each one.

You could also check your homeowner's/renter's policy. Our renter's policy automatically covered up to a certain amount without needing to add on extra. My ring wasn't crazy expensive (.75 carat center stone), so it was within the range of what was automatically covered.

My home owners insurance covers jewelry items under a certain amount (each individual item under that amount) and my ring fell under that amount. No need for an additional appraisal or coverage.
    We have State Farm.

Very good point about current insurance policies- most home owners or renters insurance will cover jewelry. Make sure to read the policy throughly though! Although my rings were covered under our homeowners insurance, it only covers theft or fire (not a lost or damaged ring, or lost stones).

Great points. I put all my jewelry and cameras, and lenses inside the mounted safety box. I will send email to my home insurance and check if I need extra coverage for all those. Thanks a lot!

My engagement ring is covered in our homeowners insurance. Honestly I forgot how much we pay, but it was cheaper than JM and covered the same things: theft, damage, lost stones, etc.

Both of our wedding bands aren’t covered. I feel like I should get my wedding band covered, but my husband said it’s not as expensive as the ER so we just did the ER.

We have ours through Jewelers Mutual and it’s a little under $400/year with a $500 deductible.

Ouch. Is this plan for your whole jewelry or just engagement and wedding bands? That’s seems too much too me. My photography gear insurance didn’t cost that much insurance.tenor.gif

Just my engagement ring . I live in Southern California which may have something to do with it being higher and I believe the lower deductible is what makes it a little more expensive. (They have deductibles as low as $0 to as high as $5k I think). My husband did some research when he was deciding to get insurance (he especially needed it since he was traveling with the ring for our engagement). I guess typically it cost $1-2 per $100 of your ring’s worth to insure it so the price made sense to him.

I pay $316 a year, $0 deductible with Jewelers Mutual for just my engagement ring. Neither of our wedding bands cost enough to consider insuring.

When we first got engaged, I was renting an apartment and called Geico, my renters insurance carrier to add it to my policy. It was so much higher than JM and covered way way less.

We added on to our renter's insurance policy so that the rings are covered by our renter's insurance

We have a jewelry rider on our homeowner's policy - it covers all of my jewelry though, not just my rings.

Not sure what my ring cost/appraised for (1.8 ct cushion cut in a 2mm pave Tiffany setting band) but the insurance is like $96 a year. I think we get a discount since we pay it in full each year and have multiple policies with them (2 cars, boat, house, ring). It is absolutely worth the money!

The cost of insurance will be dependent on the value of your ring. I have my rings insured through Jewelers Mutual.
