Rescheduling to a small intimate ceremony

Emily, on May 1, 2020 at 5:37 PM Posted in Maine Planning 0 9

Hi all!

Due to current circumstances, Maine is not allowing gatherings of greater than 50 people in August when we plan to get married. Due to this we are getting a refund from our large venue and are planning a smaller ceremony only wedding (with dinner to follow) for the same date in August.

Have any of you done this or are planning to do this? Wondering if most places allow ceremony only & also if restaurants are accommodating to reserving an area for a party of 30 following the ceremony.

Bonus if anyone has any ideas for ceremony locations in Maine

Thank you!

Have you tried the Cliff House? They have some smaller rooms so maybe you could Abe your ceremony and dinner there?

Hi!! How do you know they’re only allowing 50 people in August?! Did they already announce that? We are in Ohio and have not heard anything beyond May 12th at this point. Our restaurants are not even open to take dine-in reservations. I would imagine if yours are open, they would work with you.

Our governor issued a reopening plan. Right now it’s gatherings of less than ten, then July and August will be gatherings of less than 50, then unknown after August.

We planned an intimate wedding from the get-go before Covid and are hopeful we can still have our celebration and gathering in October.

We had to get a little creative because most venues would not host our couldn't accommodate a wedding our size (30 guests).

We found an AirBNB that would allow us to have the ceremony on a very beautiful property. We will stay and get ready there as well. We found a venue that has a bakery/cafe that closes at 3:00pm and they cater so we could have our reception/dinner there.

Hi Emily! Since all wedding venues will also be held to the same restrictions, I imagine everyone will be coming up with new modified wedding packages!!

I think looking at local restaurants with private dining rooms is a great idea! You should also look into historic inns and houses that can be fully rented out, and country clubs and hotels that also have smaller event rooms. You can also use the 0-99 maximum capacity filter in WeddingWire's local venue search to look at some places that always do smaller celebrations:
