Replace or Reception Dress

Samantha, on December 16, 2021 at 1:09 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
I bought a white dress which I loved. Long story short, doubt led me to wanting something very different. I found a black dress I adore!! I have a dark romance, Edgar Allen Poe theme going on colors are black, gold and burgundy. So do I keep the white one and wear it anyway, keep the white one but get the black for reception, or replace the white one altogether with the black one?!

PLEASE don't mind my face in the black dress, i was feeling really shy and nervous about how much I loved such a different dress!Replace or Reception Dress 1

Ok, so I do kind of LOVE the idea of a black-swan, white swan moment where ceremony is over, reception starts and you're like BAM, look who's back in BLAAAAACK! If you can afford them both, why not, I say!

I also kind of like the idea of you just wearing the black once, since it looks gorgeous on you, but I guess the things I'd suggest you consider before making your choice are...

    1. knowing your crowd (and whether you're getting married in a particularly conservative church, temple or other religious house) - I personally don't think there's anyone attending our wedding who would be heart-attack offended if I wore a black dress, but it's something to consider before you make this choice. As much as I very strongly believe everyone should have the right to wear whatever they choose on their wedding day, the practical part of me is fairly certain that no one wants an ambulance rocking up on their big day, you know?

    2. will you feel bridal in black? It's a gorgeous gown and really suits you, and if it makes you feel like a BRIDE on her wedding day then absolutely go for it! For example, I considered a pink dress, but in the end decided against it because I didn't think I'd feel bridal enough - there are so many opportunities to wear a black dress or a black gown, but very few where it's ok to wear a big ol' white dress, so I decided to take my chance - but that's just me!

I would wear the white one for the ceremony and change into the black one for the reception. You look beautiful in both by the way!

If you can afford both, do both! They both look gorgeous. If you can't do both, then choose whatever YOU want, not what you think you "should" have or what other people think you should have.

I love the black dress on you!! And I feel like you’ve wanted a black dress from the beginning- and your heart obviously keeps coming back to it. So I say definitely go for the black one!! As far as wearing both or replacing with only the black… follow your heart! I actually had a very similar experience- I wanted a black dress but couldn’t find “the one”, and then ended up falling in love with a light dress. I bought the light dress I love, but there was always a part of me that still longed for a black dress. Well, I think it was meant to be, because we ended up having to postpone our wedding twice because of covid, and then the perfect black gown appeared! So now I will have a dark and a light dress! I am going to do the opposite of what everyone would anticipate though… I am wearing the black gown for the ceremony and the light one for the reception.

It would be unique to ombre dye the white dress going into black from top to bottom, or ombre from the chest going down and back (if that makes sense,...an angled ombre). I don't really like the flat black. If it's dark romance, play it up with the ombre for sure and vampy makeup.

    Wow i love both!

can you dye the white one black? haha cause i kinda feel like they are the same styles so i don't see much of a difference other than the color.

Oh I LOVE the black one. The spaghetti straps are very flattering. Can you exchange or return the white one? If not, then just use it for the ceremony and change for the reception
