Rehearsal Dinner formality

Fwbride, on January 17, 2019 at 5:22 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 12
So we are having a very formal/elegant wedding and I want the rehearsal dinner to be on the same level, but my FH wants to do a “good ol’ black BBQ”. I hate BBQ. I’m an island girl so I love seafood and tropical dishes not really a fan of American food. I was thinking of maybe meeting him halfway and just doing a mix and mingle with cocktails and appetizers. Is it ok for the rehearsal dinner to not be on the same level at the actual wedding?

what are y’all doing for yours?

It's fine for the rehearsal dinner to be more casual than the actual wedding, but you should serve an actual meal, not just appetizers.

The rehearsal dinner doesn’t need to be the same level of formality! We had a welcome party for all guests that was come and go with passed appetizers and an open bar.

Yes, it totally fine to have a casual/cocktail/semi-formal or whatever type of rehearsal dinner! We're having ours at an Italian restaurant.

Definitely many rehearsal dinners are very casual. It really depends on the host how formal they make it. I'd love for my rehearsal dinner (if i have one at all) to be at my home or a restaurant with bbq, pizza, etc. My wedding is more formal and thats where i'd like to spend that money. Maybe you can provide cuisine you both like...bbq shrimp, meats, both tropical and bbq style etc

Could you do BBQ with dishes w/ cajun theme? Maybe crawfish and shrimp? Trout? You could do a little of both and that would be fun! I have been to a lot of formal weddings and I think it's nice if the rehearsal dinner is a little more casual. Right now we are deciding between an Italian restaurant, a seafood restaurant, or the hotel catering.

I don’t think I have to serve a meal. Especially since it’s more of a welcome party because we are inviting out of town guests from his side of the family that I haven’t met so we can get acquainted before the wedding.

We are doing bbq and southern food or pizza. Jeans and a sweater. Nothing fancy. Our wedding will be more formal.

Our wedding is a fancy sit down dinner, so our rehearsal/welcome dinner will be the opposite. We’re looking for a restaurant with a private room because we’re inviting 30-40 people, and we will serve apps and finger foods.

I would do the cocktail idea with the food you both enjoy as Hors Dearvs (however you spell that) for variety then have the dressing and decorations be formal or semi so you both are happy? ♡
