Reception

Anyone have help with a venue in Delaware that allows self catering? I’m in for anything but every place we have looked requires their catering and alcohol list and it’s just too expensive. We wanted just a simple wedding for us and our guests. Anything will help

Most traditional venues won't allow self catering due to liability issues. If you're set on self catering I would look at park pavilions and similar.

Thank you. We have tried places like our smaller state parks but they always talk about having it at the official reception and wedding venue. It’s just annoying.

I’m not familiar with your area but I did a quick google search and it says Judge Morris House and Greenbank Mills allow BYO catering. I’m not sure if they would allow self catering or if that’s even what you’re trying to do.

Have you thought about a restaurant reception? You save money because you won't have decorations, rentals, plates, etc. And you won't have to clean up or delegate who will make the food. There are usually minimums to rent a room at a restaurant but it'd likely be the same amount you'd pay to buy your own food in bulk, and at a restaurant you wouldn't have to cook or clean.

I am getting married at Thousand Acre Farm in Middletown. You have to use someone from their list of approved vendors for catering but there is a wide range of pricing, depending on what you are looking for. I still found pricing to be higher than what I thought a wedding would cost overall and so had to make a few sacrifices, but at least you have options. You can bring in your own alcohol and this does help the cost. I am not sure what your budget is or how many guests you plan on having, but perhaps this could work for you?

    Best of luck!

Unfortunately we were in the same boat. We could not find any venue that suited our needs, so we are having our reception at the church. We are allowed to do whatever we want there, and it is sooooo much cheaper!

Have you tired looking at state parks? I know that there are a couple of places that have indoor options (if you need indoor). However, I do not know if you can bring your own food and drink.

    Good luck!
