Reception with leniency

Hi brides!

I need help!!! I’ve been engaged for almost 12 months now and my fiancé and I STILL do not have a wedding reception. We are planning to get marry at a Catholic Church in uptown Charlotte in Charlotte, NC but finding a reception has been hard. A lot of places requires you to use their catering but there really is no say in the menu? I wanted to incorporate my culture and these restaurants just do not make Vietnamese food. We also are getting married in North Carolina (our family lives here and we’re originally from here) but live in Florida so unfortunately we cannot have the reception in our back yard. Lol HELP!!! The only reception I have found that allows us to bring our own food or alcohol is Sweet Magnolia in Cornelius, NC. But the venue is so big. I’m trying to see if I might of missed any venue? Also it’s not a dry wedding so I can’t do any parks. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi Kim! In this case it might be easier to work backwards, and first find the Vietnamese restaurant or caterer you want to use and ask them what wedding venues they've worked with before!

Also I'm pretty sure these venues allow you to BYO catering, but they might be a little far: Vista at Walnut Hill, The Grace, A Place in the Vineyard in Albemarle, The Farm at Brusharbor, Ritchie Hill, The Bottle Factory, and The Arbor Events.

    Hi Kim,

This one is also pretty far but my cousins had their Vietnamese catered wedding at the Magnolia Room in Rock Hill. They allow outside catering/drinks and their venue is really pretty.
Unfortunately that one’s a bit too far from me and Sweet Magnolia, although pretty, also doesn’t fit what we’re looking for. So I’m having the same exact trouble. I really want a specific caterer for our wedding but it’s so hard finding a flexible venue. Were you ever able to find a reception venue?

    Hi Arlyn,

After 12 months of being engaged my fiancé and I decided to book a venue last month call the Barn at Cedar Hill in Salisbury, NC. It’s about an hour NE of Charlotte. We tried really hard to pair the Catholic Church in downtown Charlotte with a reception within 45 minutes that would be in our price range and had vendor freedom but it just didn’t happen. Most venues we weee looking at would cost us $30k+ and it would still not be the wedding we were looking for. So we started over and decided to scratch out the Catholic Church and focus on a venue that we could do both ceremony and reception at. We love nature and being outdoors so we decided on the Barn at Cedar Hill and went with their micro wedding package. It’s beautiful and I’m our price range. It’s not the Catholic Church or Vietnamese food I was looking for but at this point it doesn’t matter anymore. I still get to marry my best friend and share it with family. Wishing you all the luck! I know it’s frustrating and hard to find the right venue!
