Reception Area Flooring Suggestions

Halle, on December 20, 2023 at 5:49 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 3

Hello! I absolutely love my venue but the one thing that I don't like about it is the flooring in the reception area - which they call the "carriage house". It's like a concrete flooring with lots of tire tracks and footprints. Any suggestions on how to make the floor look less cold and dark / more danceable? Carpets, rental dance flooring?

I'm having a spring wedding so I will have lots of florals and want a bright & colorful look but still an elegant / romantic feel. My colors are champagne, a variety of pinks, lavender, and dusty blue. Thanks in advance!!

Personally, I think the dark concrete flooring would look really cool with the contrasting light colors! It would give it a more modern, edgy vibe.

If you just reeeeeaaaaally don't like the flooring though, you could definitely go the route of laying down a dance floor. If you plan to have the same layout as the attached photo (with the dance floor down the middle of the room with tables on each side) I would only lay down flooring on that middle part, where people will be dancing. It can get quite pricey, so I wouldn't waste the money on flooring underneath the tables - no one is going to be looking there.

Many ballroom dance floors are dark so i think the aesthetic is very common. However, if you realy want a change and want to keep it economical, you can apply a white stencil graphic or floor decal, or get an artist to make a chalk drawing onto the concrete. A fancier option (but a bit dated in my opinion) would be a GOBO light that projects an image onto the dance floor. Some couples project their names or monogram. I think projecting the image behind your sweetheart table rather than the dancefloor would really bring guests' eyes up and directed at what you want to be the focus: you and your partner, other guests, your light-colored decor. The general idea of decor is if you don't like something, don't put a hat on it, distract guests with something else to look at. So I'd leave the floor alone and like Cece says, keep it as a cool contrast. Good luck deciding.

Guests will not pay attention to the flooring. Keep it as is to avoid falling hazards which come into play when the flooring is modified beyond what is already there
