Reception Activities

Amanda, on June 15, 2021 at 3:48 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10
I’m an introvert marrying an extrovert who doesn’t love wedding traditions like the cake cutting and garter/bouquet toss. My fiancé thinks people will be bored with only drinks and dancing to entertain them. Any ideas for unique reception “activities” that don’t involve hiring someone?

A photo booth or station can be fun. I know more than one person who had dressup items and a camera set up in front of a couch at their wedding.

Forgot to add, the camera just had a time delay from when you pressed the button to when it took the photo. No photographer required.

If there is no dancing with dj, guests will mingle without need or want for other activities

You could always put out decks of cards or something of that sort for people to play during the reception

Board games? We're having karaoke for a portion of our night.

What does he think the guests would prefer to do?
Has he been out to clubs and bars? People entertain themselves with drinks and dancing plenty.

People will be fine with just drinks and dancing. Even if they don't participate in either, they'll enjoy watching others and talking with people.

I agree with others you don’t really need any other entertainment. But what about food stations? You need to provide food anyway and sometimes interactive stations are fun. Like a pasta station. A fancy coffee bar or s’mores bar for dessert would be nice too.

So. My fiance is on the same page as yours. Our DJ had a package that was only like $100 more to include some games at the wedding, like cornhole, a giant Connect 4, a giant Jenga, Can Jam, and a bowling game. Of course, you could make up your own games and avoid the cost of hiring someone to do it, and they can be whatever you want! Board games, yard games, games about you guys (which you might not want since you're an introvert). We are doing the shoe game, but that might not work for you because it puts the spotlight on you. Another thing we are doing is having a married couples dance...all of the married/committed couples are invited to the dance floor, and they dance until their time together is announced, and then they step off. Last couple standing gets a little gift from the bride and groom. You could make up some crossword puzzles or word searches, just some little things to keep people entertained.
