Psoriasis on scalp?

6-22-19 Mrs.williams, on July 23, 2018 at 8:03 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 25
Anyone else have this issue. Mine flakes really badly and is all over my hair. I'm afraid that that's all people are going to see on the big day since I'll be wearing my hair half up half down. I feel like I have tried literally everything over the counter and that the dr gave me. Any advice? I'm desperate!

Go to see a dermatologist and ask their advice on what sort of medicated shampoo or other medicine you might use. The only person who can truly assist you in this is a Dr. If OTC stuff isn't working that means its time to see a DR

My FH and his mom have this and the only thing that has worked for then is an off brand psoriasis shampoo from Walmart! It literally just says psoriasis in huge reddish letters across the bottle.
They wet their hair, put it in, leave it on their hair for 20 min, then wash it out

I have gone to see a dermatologist, over 100 times no joke. All they do is give me the same type of shampoos and creams every single time even tho I tell them that it doesn't work for me.

You could probably talk to the stylist who will be doing your hair and see if s/he has dealt with something like this and what can be done to kind of hide it. I'm sure you're not the only one!

Also. You can try using apple cider vinegar. I use it for dandruff- you mix it with water and pour it on your scalp at night- let it dry. Then wash it out the next morning. You can do it a few times a week. It also makes my hair feel nice so i do it even when I dont need to haha
But since it is vinegar, it does smell. Soo warning.

My mom has psoriatic arthritis, and has psoriasis on her scalp. She uses hemp shampoo. It’s done wonders for her. Nothing else was working, not prescription creams or shampoos.

This works for me too. I usually put apple cider vinegar in a spray bottle and soak it in for half hour and then wash it out in the shower. It’s been amazing.

Try using peppermint and tea tree essential oils. Mix with almond or castor oil. These work with for a friend of mind with the same issue. Diet can cause it as well, can't remember what she had to cut out.

Have you tried a ZNP soap? Does wonders for all skin conditions (and I’ve had many, unfortunately). You can get it on Amazon. Walgreens now also carries some.

My husband has pretty bad psoriasis especially on the scalp. I am also a nurse practitioner and have several patients with his issue. I know it’s fristrating because nothing really gets rid of it except the biological medications which have a ton of side effects. For him, consistently using head and shoulders two in one shampoo and conditioner has helped calm down the flaking and amount of plaques on the scalp. My advice as a medical professional would be to stick with one thing and try it consistently because using several different ingredients is going to irritate your skin and it will never find balance. As a woman who just got married, be reassured that no one is going to focus on your scalp and in the photos we have received so far you can not even see any plaques or flaking

Im a doctor. Go see a dermatologist right now. Psoriasis is so treatable. So many things to do between shampoos, creams, and medications. You havent tried everything if you havent tried any pills or injectable medications.

And if you have already been to a dermatologist you need a new one. Preferably in a academic medical center. You can ask them about otezla and Enbrel or Humira.l, assuming you have exhausted all creams and shampoos. I would make a long list of what you tried and how long. The most important thing is you have to use something regularly, psoriasis isn't a one and done skin issue. It is chronic and life long. You need something daily for it. Also the psoriasis foundation has great information for patients.

I have had the same problem and I'll echo pp's that it's a lifelong thing- I haven't found a one and done trick to get rid of it. What has helped get rid of 85% of the problem is cutting out all SLS (sodium laurel sulfate) products, including face washes, shampoos, conditioners, and even toothpastes. I still get a scalp flare up from time to time and what I do is apply a diluted apple cider vinegar to the worst spots and leave it on for 20+ minutes. None of the OTC or derm prescribed things have ever helped me. Good luck- it's an annoying problem!

Scalpicin might help. Also talk to your doc about methotrexate. It's the only thing that helped my mom
