Processional Song too Weird?

Megan, on January 14, 2024 at 6:33 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 3
I am considering walking down the aisle to an instrumental version of "If You Were Here" by the Thompson Twins. It's an 80's song and plays at the end of Sixteen Candles when Sam(Molly Ringwald) gets picked up on the church steps by Jake Ryan and closes out the movie. I personally love this movie and song so there is a sentimental attachment for me. My fiance isn't familiar oddly enough but Im sure some people might recognize it. My worry is that while I think it's great and unique, it might be too unique and NO one will recognize it and everyone think its weird.
Please look it up on YouTube and listen if you are unfamiliar and feel inclined to comment.
I hope for brutally honest opinions please. I know it's my wedding but am trying to get feedback without giving it away to too many people who would come.

I'm familiar with the song, and I think it would be a fantastic processional song!! Especially if it holds significant meaning for you! I think people really respond to unique details like this. I mean, we've all been to tons of weddings with the exact same music... it's super refreshing as a guest to see/hear/experience something different! My best friend walked down the aisle to "Forever Young" by Rod Stewart and there wasn't a dry eye in the house! We had a dark/moody wedding (everyone in black, including the bride... nighttime ceremony by candle light, dark florals, etc.), and we had a string quartet play "Mein Herz Brennt" by Rammstein. A few people recognized it, but the majority of our guests didn't; and everyone was commenting on how amazing the song was and asking what it was! Your wedding should reflect you and how you want to feel during that special moment, so definitely choose something you want/love!

I’ve heard the song but couldn’t identify it without the extra details. If you love the song and it’s allowed at your venue, then go for it. Many brides use non traditional music and no one is confused by the selections.

The ones that recognize it will think it’s really cool, the ones who don’t will think it’s unique. I personally wouldn’t think it’s weird and I don’t think most people would. If someone thinks it’s weird then they are going to think anything you do other than a traditional wedding March is weird.
