Poster Board seating chart

MIWM, on May 15, 2019 at 2:14 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 3 21
I was thinking about having the seating chart displayed at my reception on a poster board but my fiancé is afraid people will say it looks tacky. Anyone have any pictures or ideas on how to display seating chart at the wedding reception? We both prefer not to do escort cards.

As a guest I prefer escort cards in alphabetical order because it's easier to find my name than it is to search a chart for my name at a table. It also keeps too many people from bunching up trying to find their name at the same time which is more of a problem the larger the wedding.

That said, if you're set on a seating chart rather than escort cards, there have been brides on here that have used old windows, frames or wrote the names on acrylic boards. Poster board isn't awful if you frame it nicely. You could do a thicker board too and display it on an easel, which is always pretty. There are tons of ideas on Pinterest too!

I used large 18x24 picture frames and wrote my seating chart on the acrylic to look more elegant. I did all of my signs this way.

I forget how much each frame costs at Michaels...$40? But they always have a 40-50% off coupon on the website so I bought them seperately. You could also find huge frames at Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. I only have a photo of my welcome sign but I used the same frames.

I just took the backs off but kept the acrylic/plastic in. I traced my welcome sign from a print out but for the seating chart I just hand wrote the names of guests under table numbers. It worked perfect, and was cheaper than buying from Etsy.

When I think poster boards I think school projects, I'm sure you can have a board printed from Vistaprint for very little money, or even a poster and then frame it but you'd need to have your seating chart set in stone pretty early to order on time. Hand writing this made it easy to switch names and take people off last minute if need be. Good luck!

Escort cards are the worst! People always lose them! Check with your caterer if they need something to tell who gets which meal, unless you are doing buffet.

I have seen 5x7 cards clipped on wires in a huge frame. One card per table. You can find frames at yard sales or second hand places and spray paint.

I have also seen names written on those over the door mirrors in sharpie, looks really cool.

Yes! So what I did was write out the tables in word with a font I liked and then centered them. I printed them out on regular 8.5x11 paper and they for perfectly in the panes. I just traced the font with chalk pens by putting the paper underneath the windows. I got the windows from Facebook marketplace.

We bought ours from Zazzle. We did it in alphabetical order instead of by table number so it would be easier for people to find their spots.

Using a larger frame definitely does clean up poster boards. But if you can't do that, adding florals/garland can work too.

We're using old windows with multiple panes to separate the tables. We're going to spread them out so people don't get clustered in one spot. My FSIL and my sister are amazing with writing cool fonts and stuff. We didn't want to do escort cards either just to save some money. We've seen boards work with other couples at weddings that we've been too.

I found one on Pinterest that was a large "Poster Board" printed at a printer - and all the names were in alphabetical order with their table numbers next to their name. I think if it's alphabetical it would go quick. For us our entrance area is fairly small so there isn't space for a table to display a bunch of escort cards. I am thinking about putting up two boards - one on each side of the entrance doors to reduce any congestion.
