Plus size bride help!!

Hi Erin! I'm a size 16/18 and was nervous before I went dress shopping. I had already told myself that there would probably be lots of dresses I couldn't even try on - and that was not the case at any store I went to! I went to about 5 different stores and was able to try on almost everything (and didn't call them beforehand about sizes or anything).

You can also look up plus size specific dress lines and then search for local stores that carry them! Maggie Sottero, Morilee, Essence Designs, Sophia Tolli, Watters, David's Bridal, BHLDN and more all have a variety of gowns in extended sizes.

View Quoted Comment The problem isn’t getting a plus sized dress. It’s finding a store that has lots of samples big enough to try on. Say a size 22 street is like 26 bridal. They say they have plus size dresses to try but that 18 isn’t going on a 22 girl.

Have you tried calling any local stores to see what size samples they carry?

David's Bridal is also great for all dress sizes - that could be a good place to start shopping to get any idea of the silhouettes and styles you like!

I went to the local David’s Bridal just to look and see what their plus size selection was. I did an impromptu try on with several dresses. I ended up buying the very first one I tried on and it was literally half the price of the other contenders that I didn’t get “that feeling” wearing. I’m a 22/24 in normal clothes and I tried on dresses in 22-26 depending on designer sizing and sample availability. I ended up buying the 22.
