Platinum Gown

Michael, on May 9, 2022 at 5:44 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

I'm not sure if a gown years ago was platinum or silver. Are there some of these metallic colors available?

I'm not thinking of some much of a super shiny style but just the general color.

Has anyone got married in a metallic gown? Did it work out well?

Thanks

Thanks. I think it is worth trying out. I just have not found a designer for this.

It turns out Allure/Abella has the Gaia and Marina in silver. The styles might not work though.

I just saw this silver one showing on the preview page of the weddingwire dresses. It looks wonderful except that the train is too long. It is the C627 with a mix of ivory/silver or champagne/silver. It makes me wonder how they add the silver tone.

A seamstress can shorten the train if that's an issue for you. It's a lovely dress and you can absolutely find other metallic/satiny gowns like that!

    Thanks for the feedback.

Looking again at it, the back is a bit too complex to reduce the train unless they are willing to make it shorter in the first place. I've seen some of alteration prices.

Yes I'm finding some more silver gowns. Some just have a silver layer. I'm not sure how that works out. There was one sheath which I don't think would work. This one shown above is still my favorite. The designers don't really highlight the silver gowns so I have to work on hunches.

I tried on the gown in your photo; it wasn’t overall metallic looking, just a soft grey satin (“silver” color) but maybe I’m misunderstanding what you are asking. The embroidery was in grey/silver tone thread and beading.

Thanks. That makes sense. I have not seen the gown in person, but silver is mostly like a gray with a shine to it. There are other dresses which have the layers like white/nude/silver. So these obviously are going to be more nuanced. It sounds like the silver detail was not as impressive as maybe appears in the image i posted. But I do recognize it is not going to be a pure silver appearance. Was it the style that did not impress you?

Actually, the style was lovely - it’s just that I had already found my dress at the appointment before but I wanted to be thorough so I still went to the last appointment I’d made Smiley smile my dress is very similar in style! It’s C152 Chantelle by Amare Couture, also a Satin ball gown with embroidery. The dress you posted was more pricey, and the fall of the skirt on me just wasn’t the same as the one I had already fallen in love with - but don’t get me wrong, absolutely still a gorgeous dress.

Great you found the Chantelle. That too is a beautiful gown. I actually got the list of layers from their website. Their home base is near here but I have not checked there recently.

I tried on a gown that had a silver sparkle underlay and silver/ivory beading and lace. It was off white and in the light sparkled silver. If silver was my color I would have gone with it, but cool tones wash me out.

I have seen one designer doing up to four layers with ivory, blush and silver or three layers with champagne, ivory and silver. I don't know how those layers mesh together yet.

Personally I think they mesh really nicely. The one I went with has a layer of blush, peach, ivory and then the embellishments. There’s no sparkle layer like I initially wanted but the bead work had some sparkles in it so it’s not completely gone.

Sounds like quite a dress. Maybe it shouldn't be so, but sparkly always seems nice.

The all-silver satin seems to be an extravagant option so it costs more. So we'll see what the silver layer is like.

That’s fair. It’s heavier material too. The one problem I have with satin is that it snags on EVERYTHING!!!!!!!! I wore a green satin dress ONCE and someone bumped into me while wearing a bracelet. Their bracelet caught on the fabric and completely messed it up. Thankfully it was able to be hidden in the pleats of the dress, but it’s just very irritating.

This only has to last one night. But that would be a bummer.
