Planning a cheap day in Central Park from the Uk, Anyone else in same boat?

Hollie, on June 16, 2019 at 6:08 PM Posted in New York Planning 0 4

Hi,

We have finally chosen our date and location fr the big day. Now it is just about piecing everything together, while still being cost effective. We are from the UK and our close family are coming with us, so only 11-15 people. I have the ceremony all planned in Central Park, but now stuck as to what to do after the ceremony. As we are a small party and don't want a big traditional wedding, we are trying to possibly do a tour or limo service for an hour or two (this will entertain guests and allow us to take great photos, in stunning locations!). Then go to a restaurant with great food and a beautiful view.

Anyone any suggestions or also thinking of planning theirs like this?

    Hi!

There are a lot of tours offered in NYC. I would not recommend a limo, personally, as the traffic is generally awful, and American limos are not best suited for good views.

April is a toss-up for weather, here. You could have beautiful, spring weather that is mild and sunny and great to let your guests wander, or it could be cold and rainy and miserable.

The thing about Central Park, though, is that your guests might not need entertaining - it's huge, it's surrounded by shopping, museums, food, and historic locations. Your best bet might be to contact a touring company and hire a tour guide for part of the day.

Do you have a budget? Are there particular things your group might be interested in?

    Hi Smiley smile

    Thank you for the advice!!

I was thinking a private tour for a couple of hours, that way we would see a lot more. I have been to NYC a few times and know what you mean about Centra Park, absolutely beautiful! However, I just thought if the weather isn't good like you've mentioned, it wouldn't be ideal to walk around for a couple of hours, especially in wedding attire.

Ww don't have a budget as it stands, but certainly wouldn't want to make anything to expensive for a casual wedding. Over half my guests (my family) that are coming have never been to America let alone NYC, so I do believe they will be interested in anything. I do like the idea of a private tour however, as it could tick all boxes.

Now we just need to find a lovely restaurant with the views to complete our evening!

Welcome to the WeddingWire community, Hollie Smiley smile

Central Park is one of my favorite places in the world! A ceremony there sounds amazing! Where about will it be in the park?

A private tour sounds like a great idea! The weather would be a little worrisome for a walking tour, I agree! Would you consider buying everyone tickets for a hop on hop off tour? This could be super cost effective and a great way of seeing the city. You could pick a few spots to hop off to see more! Groupon usually has great deals. You could reach out to one of these companies also and price a private tour on a vehicle!

With the restaurant, what kind of view are you looking for? I can certainly help you look for some options Smiley smile

    Hi Cliodhna,

    Thanks for the great advice.

The location will be at Wagners Cove, I've seen it in many pictures and it looks amazing.

I have never been on one of the Hop on and off tours, but sounds like a good idea. However, I think I would like it to only be the wedding party on the tour.

I'd love any location for the restaurant, just along t's one to remember, not too pricey and the views are amazing. When me and my partner have visited NYC, we only really went to fast food places for convenience, so this is something I will have to do a lot of research on.
