Photographer Mia!!!

Hi all! FH and I have been emailing, texting, and calling our photographer for weeks trying to plan our engagement shoot so that we can have nice pictures for our save the dates and the website. At first I cut him some slack because it’s a very busy time of year, but it has been WEEKS without a word from him. So bizarre. I’m worried because we already put down a deposit, and I’m totally freaking out! He has really good reviews on WW and the knot, and he seemed nice when we met, so I was feeling pretty confident.... Any similar situations? What would you guys do in my position?

I don't have any experience with this but I guess my best suggestion is to keep calling him about every other day until you get an answer. Maybe have your mom or someone from a different number call and see if he answers? Have her pretend to be a potential client (if you want to be extra sneaky) If he answers someone else's call (or returns their call) before yours, I would be pretty offended.

You've left voicemails too and no response back? Have you tried texting him? Email? Sounds weird that he doesn't even send a response back.

I would send a text and say you are concerned because you haven’t heard anything back and ask that he contact you by a specific date so you can move forward in your planning. Be assertive especially if you’ve already given him money. Do you have a signed contract? Once you reach him I would ask him what the best way is to reach him going forward and what is the timing you can expect a response. I had a similar issue but not quite that long but I let him know that wasn’t acceptable.

I hate when vendors are so MIA!
Usually from my experience they do eventually respond so keep trying!

Oh man, I am in the exact same boat!! I’ve been trying to get our engagement shoot scheduled for at least a month (we’ve paid our whole balance and have a signed contract) but the response, when I get one, is sporadic and of the “I’ll get back to you with potential dates” and then no reply type. I have no advise but I do understand the panic. I actually just changed to a new STD that didn’t require pics because we needed to get them ordered. Luckily we actually prefer the new ones and we’ll hopefully use the pics on our invites.

As a vendor myself, I can truly say that this is absolutely unacceptable and I cannot even come up with a situation in which I'd not respond to a bride for weeks. I would send a communication in every way that you can and express your concerns that you may even consider a new photographer. This is not something that you should have to be dealing with and the stress will continue up to and on your wedding day if this continues to happen. Vendors are supposed to make your lives easier, not harder.

Hey there. I'm really sorry to hear about this. Have you been able to get in contact with him since?

Wow this is crazy! You’re not the first person to say their photographer is MIA. Where are you located?

Did your package include an engagement session? If so and he doesn’t give you that shoot he’s in breach of contract. If it’s not included then I would suggest going with a local photographer. If you search your local area on Instagram by hashtag for example #santacruzphotographer you will find so many amazing people
