Pagan/spiritual wedding ceremony script ideas

Miranda, on April 19, 2024 at 2:42 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 2
Hi! My fiance and I are trying to come up with some ideas for a simple ceremony. We don't follow a particular tradition of Paganism. We have decided to do a handfasting and candle ceremony. Our officiant is a close friend of ours and is Pagan himself. However, this is his first wedding he's performing. He just recently got ordained to do our wedding. The ceremony is outdoor. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Did you search for "pagan" on the main forums page? That might yield some previous discussions. It seems few discussions have come up on pagan features. The main focus seemed to be about the handfasting.

The standard wedding script as we know it has its origins in paganism. That means anything that does not include rituals pertaining to Judeo-Christian theology. Nearly all wedding traditions and rituals come from that same background from various points in time. What are you looking for specifically outside of the standard script? Handfastings are pagan in origin though they are adopted by Christian groups. Do a search on Google for a simple secular ceremony and see what comes up. You can also browse offbeatwed.com for ceremony inspiration.

The general script is a welcome from the officiant, then they may speak about you as a couple or you can skip that. Traditionally the officiant is the one who reads any optional passages of your choice (poems, excerpts from books, etc). The vows are exchanged and required in most states to be spoken aloud in front of the officiant in order to make things legal. Ring exchange and then announced as partners.
