Outdoor weddings in mid-may?

Jb229, on December 17, 2020 at 10:13 AM Posted in Virginia Planning 0 2
Hey guys - I’m having a barn wedding 5/14/2022 in northern VA. Initially, my fiancé and I thought it would be the perfect time of year, but I’m starting to grow skeptical of the weather - such as a higher chance of rain or low temperatures. Anyone else in this area had an outdoor wedding in mid-May? Is it too risky? Or am I just over-thinking it? 😅

Hi there! Doing a quick google search shows that average highs in May in that area are 76 degrees with 50 degree lows - which means it's still definitely getting chilly at night!

Is the barn enclosed? Have you asked your venue how May weddings typically feel? If you think it might be tool cold you can look into renting heaters!

I am scheduled for May 15, 2021 in northern Virginia and I am not too worried about the weather. I was previously schedule for May 9, 2020 (but got pushed due to COVID). May is usually fairly decent; last year most of the month was nice being outside. It does rain sometimes, but not too bad. Last year on May 9, it was dearie and a little cold -- it was the one upside of postponing. If the barn is covered, it should be fine, even for a cold evening. Most venues also have some space heaters that could provide a little heat, if needed.
